CRAZY - - - dealing with a bunch of people who have no concept of TIME !

I left my broody with the flock until about day 16. Then I separated her from the rest. NOW, during the 16 days she was with the flock, I had to check her everyday. She stole other chickens eggs and added them to her clutch. PLUS, when she got down to get a drink or eat, others would hop up there and lay their egg in her nest.

So, she may not like you touching her eggs - - BUT she will get over it and it won't hurt anything !

I sooo can relate to being the only Organizer and that others have no concept of time!!!!!!! - Maybe a woman thing????????

I was interested to hear about your Broody math ace - My girl did exactly what yours did. I had her with the other girls for a longtime into her brood. It was crazy really as I had two hens Broody at the same time. Bertha stole her eggs and put them in her own nest and also the others layed in the nest when Bertha went for a strole. Gerty tried to steal the nest and then after a few hours would get bored and walk off and the eggs would go cold. When Elly the other broody died Bertha got all her eggs and was sitting on loads about 15-18 eggs and I had no idea who layed them or when??? After one exploded on Berthas bottom I took her out of the pen and put her on her own in the small run. She didn;t like me taking the eggs but I had to as they and she was covered in gone off exploded egg. In the end I took a cloth and warm water and washed them and her and then put them in another nest and put her in with that nest in a very small coop she had no option but to sit right back down. We did get 4 live chicks out of the 6 eggs we left for her.

Tonopah - wow I would be soooo scared of snakes - your a braver girl than I am!!!!!!!! I am really scared of snakes and spiders. I am soooo glad we don;t get ahlf the wildlife you have over there.

Well my Dh just took Jessica out in the car for a bit. She has screamed none stop all morning and my head is away. I am going to fix a really big coffee and sit for a while until they come back. Hopefully the car will send the little might to sleep. -

The parcil man came today with a big lazy boy game chair hubby has been getting them for the lads for Christmas - I can soooo relate to oversized men furniture!!!! Anyhow I did ask the Parcil man if I put her in a box would he take her with him but he said his kids were grown and he was way past that stage so no luck there?

I am soooooo hoping she will sleep a bit once she gets back.

Oesdog - have a nice day girls - I am sooo going to enjoy this coffee. I think I will make it with a load of froth on the top! May be some chocolate too??

I have had her separated from day one, as when she was broody in the big cage the other girls would sit in there WITH HER an lay their eggs, which she would then scoot under her and sit on until I took them away. I have a picture of all three of them sitting in the favored nest box, with Sunshine shoved into the corner while the other two lay their daily egg. I was sure the fertilized eggs would get broken if I left her in the big coop. I hope they allow her back into the flock once she is done.

You know, driving my son around to calm him down has never worked. I've never seen a child that didn't work for. He would just keep screaming, and even now he can be completely exauhsted, yawning and rubbing his eyes, and still not fall asleep during an hour long car ride! He also always hated the swing.

Morning People, and for the Ladies across the way, Afternoon.

Same ole sludge for coffee. It's almost gone. Plenty to share with you all.

Weather: Thunder storms, lots of rain, mid 70's today.

oesdog: I haven't grown garlic before, so this is going to be a learning curve for me. I know one thing tho, we live on clay. It's like you molding/modeling clay. When we bought this place, I pulled some fence posts out of the ground. Thinking I was in land and you let mother nature take care of the holes (they would cave/fill in by themselves), I had to return over a year later to fill in the holes. So for our root crops, I have to make raised beds.

Every day should be "National Coffee Day"

One good thing about snakes, you can tell when the better half finds ones. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy you day

Good Morning. Beautiful day ahead and I think for the whole week-end!!! Yipee!!! I don't have to work anywhere, but its home and LOTS of work here. Getting in the attic and getting Halloween stuff out (don't know how the orange/black and scary will look with pink begonias, daisies and Impatients, but they are still too pretty to do away with!

) and going to go through some of my Xmas stuff at the same time. Time to clean out and get rid of stuff and pass it onto the girls. Life is good. Wish I had a little more money, but other than that, I have no real complaints. I am working on a cup of hot tea; DH and DS is still asleep, pups are running through the house chasing each other like toddlers, Alpacas are humming and happy in the pasture and life is good.
Everyone had a more than special day!!!
