That sounds yummy, I like prawns myself. DW makes them with spaghetti and sauce.

You know the other night when I was in church and looked at the choir i thought of Danny. We have a not, so young man anymore, named Adam. Adam was born much like your Danny. Adam can't sing but has been in the choir for as long as I can remember. His dad used to cook the breakfast for the parents who bring their kids early for Sunday school and Adam used to help. Ever since his dad had a heart attack and had to stop Adam has been doing the breakfasts. Of course there have always been others who help out but from what I understand Adam does the breakfasts. It's hard to explain but you get the general idea. As long as I live I will always think of Danny when I see Adam.

It's nice to hear about your Danny. Sometimes I think lifes not so much about them but about us and how we show God we are merciful and kind. Without Danny and Adam how would Christ know? Bless you and your family.
and of course all my chickens friends here.

Rancher

Thanks Rancher thats nice. - The boy who was given the prawns for helping on the boat was the other Twin Ben - he functions as a teenager and needs a bit of help to be independent with finances, shopping and letters and things like that. I would say he would be emotionally and mentally functioning about 13 - 15 yrs of age. SO he can do most things with a bit of helping.( Unless you knew you probably would think he just had a few social issues you wouldn;t really put it down to brain damage!)

Its nice your church is so good with the lad Adam. Of course my wee Danny wouldn;t be able to do anything like helping much with breakfast - but he does know how to sing!!!! He can;t have a conversation but he sure can sing you a good rousing gospel song - and he usually is in tune and has most of the words - sort of!!!! The prawns were just wonderful today and made me think of the fact that really GOd knows us best and knows the little things that can cheer us up and make us feel good. Now wasn;t he the only one who knew I needed prawns more than I did??? I got two massive pans full - they are going to take a while to peel only I keep eating them as soon as I get it out of the shell!!!!!

Morning/Afternoon People,
Coffee's hot, wood stove is lit, ladies are asleep, and it's peaceful..................need I say more?

Weather:Woke up to 46f.degs and breeeeeeeeeeeeeeezy, wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiindddddddddddddy (yard is going to be full of sticks to clean up), Today: chance of showers, "breezy" mid 60's. and damp. I can feel it in the ole bones.

Office work today, hauling firewood up to the house, hopefully some shop time.

With our rats, (you'll hate this), they never had "chores" (continue reading). There was things that they had to do, make their beds, clean their rooms, dishes ect. The foremost and most important thing that came before everything was their education. For graduating, they each went to college for 4 years, yes all expense paid, car, phone etc. One graduated as a nurse, the other is working on her doctoral. They were never given a allowance when they were growing up, so there was never a "reward" for them doing their work. We all shared in life's challenges. I am a firm believer that your kids should excel over you. Yes we pushed/paid for things as they were growing up. Maybe it is me, but I can remember people complaining at the cost of computers, yet they would go on these fancy trips all over. The rats had computers from about 8yrs on up. Yes supplied by us. To me, where were their priorities? As with all things in life, what is good for the gander, may not be good for the goose. So what worked for us, may not be good for anyone else. We also lived on a 265 acre farm, so there wasn't many places or people to influence them.

With both of our parents, and grandparents, they had the same notion when we moved out " don't let the door hit you in the _$$ on your way out". Guess who is "taking" care of them now?

I hope this makes since to someone, but it doesn't to me. I lost my train of thought in my empty cup.

Enjoy the day

It all makes sense to me!
My kids do both chores and education. If they aren't making good grades - - - there are extra chores they will have to do. . .
You either work hard at school or you will work REALLY hard at home.

Even if they have good grades, there are a few basic chores they are responsible for - - - just like us. We work 9-5 and have to come home and cook dinner. They go to school 7 - 3 and then have to do dishes after homework.

While my dad was raising us - - - he use to tell his wife (my step mom) not to invest a lot of time into the children because we would get married and move out. . . FUNNY, considering she left him a long time ago and I am the one taking care of him now. . .
There are 5 of us siblings and we do not live close to each other. We are at least 5 hours one way from each other.

I don't regret or resent what I am doing for my dad - - -Just pointing out how ironic it is considering his beliefs when I was small !

Yippie,

Dh is going to work on our GAZEBO today ! ! !

I am going to work in our garden - - which looks like poo poo!
Also, I am hoping to get out into the outside shed and doing some organizing and cleaning etc. I'll need some really big trash cans for that job. There is a LOT of my school stuff out there and I will need to toss a lot of papers.

HAVE A GREAT DAY everyone!

Well it kind of made sence to me!
In that DH and I struggled to do that for our kids. - Dh's parents died so they were not around or too ill when they were, to give a lot of help to us. Mine were not in a possition to. So now well we are not looking after any of them. My Parents would have been of the mind - you make your own way in the world and don't come crying to us for help - so we never did. Now I don't live any where near to them so I don't have the old care issues going on. I guess they are " Making their own way in the world!" Or out of it?

I think we perhaps over compensated with our kids. - We did more or less what you have done. We scrimped and saved and went without so our kids had the best of everything. When others were struggling to find the money for one computer for their house - our kids ( The three that could manage) All had their own in their rooms!!!, They All had their own TVs and Phones long before anyone else did. We shared home tasks like cleaning and cooking but nothing was ever written in stone. Our kids never got pocket money as everything went on education and what they needed for that. So if they wanted Money they got a job and they all did - they all worked delivering papers or stacking shelves in the local store. ( They resent that we didn;t give them pocket money now!) We were and still are of that mind that they should be BETTER than us in everyway. We often went without so that they could have more. I never had any wardrobes or proper cuboards in my bedroom for years and years. - So that we could pay for a really good school for our eldest son and he went on to university.

This is were it all back fired. - The lad who went to University droped out twice two years running!!!!!!! My girl didn;t finish her college and now she is struggling to get back into the education system and go on to teacher training university degree. Now she has to also juggle a new baby. She is resentful to me for asking her to "help" in the kitchen etc when she was younger. She says she had to help more than the boys did? Fact is I was more than happy to have female company in the Kitchen than the boys hanging about the place!!!!! Another of my many parental mistakes!!!!!! She is now determined to NEVER be as she says Suzi homemaker! In other words she doesn;t want to be like me and domestic chores are a no go zone for her!!!!!!!!! Funny thing is the lad with the brain injury who brought me the prawns, is the only one to have finished his courses!!!!!! He came through the special Education system and then went to agricultural college to study horticulture - were with a lot of help he passed his diploma. We even went to his graduation and have photos of the lad in all his graduation robes and everything. While the other two with all their sences and opportunities and priviladges never finished and gave up!!!!!!! They also do not appresiate all we sacrificed to put them through school and college and university!!!!!!!!

Kaj - I am glad it worked for you with your kids. I think the difference is that you didn't have outside influances on your kids. Unfortunately we lived in the city and they had loads of things to distract them and loads of peers who were into a lot of stuff we would disaprove of. - Now at least my Dd wants to bring her baby up in the countryside away from all that influance. I can;t help wishing we had done things differently though. Should we have gotten them so much???? Pushed them sooo Hard??????
Now they seem to think we are an endless supply of things they want!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rancher suggested - Dumpster diving for stuff - well we did it when we needed stuff and it didn;t do us any harm. But our kids want new and the best and that is not always possible in this world!!!!! They have a lot to learn and in someways we made it so much harder by wanting to give them sooo much when they were small.

Ok i'm up.

gotta go see bro. who had operation. He's quite the drama queen. not a queen just acts like one. nutter for sure.
plus it snowed in the mountains and i'm not ready for snow so I got to get busy.
plus there's a chicken show at the fair grounds tomorrow and I want to go.
plus got to worm the buggers. $42 for wormer but it doesn't require tossing eggs so that's ok.
plus gotta get some more wood chips at TSC $4.99 so i stock up for the winter, so I don't have to drag them through the snow. the less time I spend going out in the winter the better. time to pull out that yarn and books to read.

oesdog, I figure we want our kids to not have the hard time we had but forget our hard times didn't kill us and made us stronger.

I'm teaching them to hit the thrift stores and save money. Mum doesn't realize we're raising a bunch of pansies who won't survive if we keep helping them. I can't believe how stupid we were when we were younger and the stupid choices we made. #1 mistake? credit cards. # 2 buying stuff we didn't need.

Well take care, places to go, people to annoy.

RANCHER, if you can get the kids to understand that credit cards are not FREE MONEY and they have to be paid back -
- - That is the key!

THRIFT STORES are a wonderful discovery. I find a lot in our area have prices so marked up that I can buy somethings brand new "on SALE" for maybe 10% more than the prices at the thrift stores - - - so even here they have to be SMART shoppers.

Somethings are deals at thrift stores - - ie bread makers for $7. I find I can get my books cheaper at yard sales - - so I watch craiglists and freecycle for ads for books. I've done good in the past on craigslist for farm and garden items. . . EBAY can get you some deals too. It is all about shopping around and asking around.

I have a few friends who will let me know when regularly retailers are running deals - - like JCPennys at 75 - 90% off. Then NEW is cheaper than thrift store . . . .

good morning all.
having my first cup have been to pick up feed
and only time for some OJ
mathace
right you are, thirft store are getting pricey.
no credit cards here and kids know the same
if you want it save for it.
until then do with out.
enjoy your day folks it was 36 at this morning at 6
now the sun is bright and warm with it
going to 70s.

Well it is Sunday I think. -
Got a lay in this morning as Danny didn;t get up untill after 4.30 am!!!!!!
It is freezing here. Its not even winter yet and I am soooo cold. Also have a very sore throat probably due to all those prawns I was eating!!!!!!!!
hmm.png

Oh well now I am going to get yet another coffee if only to use the heat of the cup to stop my fingers from getting frost Bite!

Today I am cooking a pork roast with apple and peaches and glazed with honey!!!!! Yum!!!!! Roasted veg and lovely crunchy spuds. THe family want yorkshire puds with it so I am thinking I will stuff those. Apple stuffing???? Oh well I will figure ???

Better away and sort the oven.

DH has a new 4x4 hes picked up for the winter and is busy sorting it in the yard. - honestly everywhere I look there is bits of vehicles???? NO motor bike now though but he did say he could pull a new fishing boat from the back of the 4x4 as it has a great tow bar. - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!
We got rid of the other car and turned it into a jeep as we need that down here in the winter months. Especially with two kids who have Epilepsy and the new baby we have to make sure we can get to a hospital whatever the weather. DH is enjoying himself pottering and doing stuff which is good for him. THe Camper is all sorted and ready to roll as well now so were doing good I think. Dd thinks we are insaine but we like working on things. We actually made a lot of money doing things up over the years!

Almost as good as dumpster diving but not nearly as messy Rancher!!!!!
