I hope so Karl - cause I found some in my feed bin. The momma mouse got in to steal food and couldn;t get out and she darn had the babies in there. When I went out they were cold and blue and I thought they were dead. So I lifted them and put them in my pocket thinking I would feed them to the chickens like yourself. Well when I pulled them out they had gone pink in the heat of my pocket and started to move. I took them back to the feed store and put a heat pad under them. Momma came back and got them all. But then I had 4 wee tiny little things for ages getting stuck in the darn feed store cause they could get in to steal food but they were too tiny to get out. It got to the stage that they were waiting for me to put my hand in so they could be lifted out!!!!! - I have had to re think the feed store cause I don;t want the mice in there and certainly not having babies. Some folk say I should have killed them but its not in me to kill babies. They gave me loads of pleasure for a long time though like noughty kids!!

I found the EE eggs I thought Sky had eaten, they were just tucked under her really well. I figured, I'll give her a chance. I couldn't section off the area for her at first, so I decided this would work:

And here is how I found them two hours later:

So I found another piece of hardware cloth to use to isolate Sky, and now she is under observation. I got 11 speckled sussex eggs in the mail, with at least six more on the way.

I am so JEALOUS that you have not one, but too broodies.

It just ain't right AND before you know it the leghorn will probably join in!

It just ain't right to have all the broodies to yourself! What are you mixing in their water that is making those girls want to go broody ?

I'm telling you, it has something to do with working with pregnant teens all day - I come home and it rubs off on my chickens. Maybe I should change out of my work clothes before I pick them up or fill their waterers?

All my broodies are 6 -7 months old and not even laying full-size eggs. I'm still trying to decide if I should stuff all 17 hatching eggs under the two of them, or put some in an incubator. I wasn't expecting the extras, and I don't even know how many I'll get from the second auction that was for 6 eggs. I've never incubated, and it makes me nervous.

I guess I saved them because I am soft!!!!
I am used to mice - when I was a child I grew up in an old cottage and we often had little visitors. My father made us a humane trap. I took the mice and put them at the end of the garden - I think they followed me back home!!! In the end they took up residence with my pet rabbit!!! I think I spent more time watching the mice than my rabbit after that! My Grandmother also gave my sister gerbils ( Dessert Rats - because her husband was a RAT in WW2. ) So We always had those kind of things hanging about the place. My Sister also had Gerbils and hooded lister Rats as an adult for pets. They were funny creatures.

Then we have had them on and off in our own homes since I married and we have mostly lived in houses that are surrounded by farmland. I am not afrade of them and I get great pleasure watching them.

However I draw the line when they comein the house and have used culling from time to time. Anything old enought to run away is fare game in the house!!!But NO I do not kill defencless babies - It just isn't in me. As for RATS NO I don;t let any Wild Rats near the place. They are just awful and riddled with dieases. - Mice I can tolerate because mostly they live in the fields and have the same yuky diseases that Cats and chickens have anyhow. But RATS well Sewers ( Need I say more!) Thats when the soft me gets hard axx and I will definatley Kill them!!!!

Love the Broody girls!!!!! Pics are great!!! - Sky abandoned her nest for the other one!!!! Ginger is deffinately the Momma hen!!!! Hopefully Sky will settle to her own nest and stop being jealous of Ginger or Skys eggs wont hatch if she lets them go cold all the time!!! You could try to put her into a much smaller space - Door Nest box type set up so she just goes in and onto the nest and can;t go anywhere else? Thats what I did with Bertha when I moved her after Gerty tried to take over. Sometimes It helps them FOCUS!!!
