Quote:
tell me how many Muslims do you know personally? I mean personally not in passing.
I know several, I am close friends with one, (ho, mind you is born and raised in the US, well educated, intelligent, feminist, who wears a Hijab, is blond haired blue eyes, out spoken, white, and not ignorant in the slightest.) and it is no more true than saying Christians are taught early on that all non Christians are less than Christians and should be converted to Christianity and killed, though historically, Christian groups have, and still do this, and passages in the bible can be interpreted as instructing such horrors.
you have extremists in any group, and moderates in any group. you have people who take written works literally and people who take loose interpretations of written works, and people who doubt written works. And all holy books can and are interpreted differently by each reader, leader, and group, not to mention the any translations and versions of the holy books of the different religions, Christians included.
No one said anything about Muslims being ignorant - misguided maybe but ignorant certainly not. As for knowing Muslims - I lived in Bristol for a good few years of my life were I had many good close friends who were Muslims both male and female ( there were also friends who were girls and disapeared into underaged arranged marriages - sexual slavery) . I have certainly not in any way sugested that following the Muslim faith makes someone ignorant - it is their personal choice and many Muslims are very well educated like Osama bin Laden for example!!)
- However If they want to be radical fanatical vail wearing supporters of violence, terrorism, underaged arranged marrages and many other Koran based ideology fine - but DO IT IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY NOT OURS!!!!!!!! As for what you say about our Christian faith - we live in a Christian country that is constantly undermined by folk trying to intergrate other faiths while restricting our freedom to follow ours in our own lands.
Maybe you should educate yourself about what is really happening within the Muslim society both here in the UK in your own country and abroad and not just base what you think on one friend who has decided to donn the Veil!!! Over 800 young girls go missing from our schools every year. Just a few months ago a poor creature was burned to death because she was pregnant. Burned to death in her garden in a so called Honour killing by 5 men. She was only a girl in her early 20s.
Yes I agree with you fanatical "Christians" have done terrible things in the name of God abroad. I don;t support that at all and they Do not follow the will of GOD.
The new testiment of the Holy Bible under grace because of the sacrifice of Jesus our lord on the cross does not condemn - is merciful and tollerant and wants all to be saved. It is personal choice if someone does not want to follow our lord God. He instructs all Christians to "love our neighbor and our enemy there is NO instruction in the New testiment to Kill someone just because they do not want to be Christian. However there is instruction not to allow those who follow the teachings of false Gods to live amongst us. Judgement is for our lord God not for us.
If you want to be more understanding of the real world behind the vail - I can recomend some reading for you and also direct you to some good websites.
I also believe that if you want to post things of a political or sensitive religious nature then maybe you should use a PM as this is a valued thread and we do not want to lose it!!!!!!
Oesdog -
you started the political and religious thing, You bring it up, don't get upset when someone disagrees, nor pretend that you're innocent and someone else is starting something.
also, I find it interesting when a Muslim does something terrible, you say it is apart of the Muslim faith but when a Christian does something wrong they are not being Christian.
Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all from the god of Abraham,w ith similar roots, similar back ground, and origins in the same countries.
so when you say they should do things in their own countries. What countries are "their" countries? The middle east is full of violence of Christians and Jewish groups fighting over religion too. Christianity and Judaism came out of the middle east, and Ireland started out a non Christian country that was converted. Should Christians go back to "your countries" in the middle east?
BTW, have you forgotten about your own Northern Ireland? Both political and religious strife of different Christian and political factions?
I am quite educated of groups. I have read several versions of the bible, I have been to churches, interned serving Monks at catholic church, I have not fully read the Qur'an, It has several versions as well, like the Bible, but it is on my list of things to do.
I have also met extreme Muslims, as I have met extreme Christians who think their religion is the only right religion.
I will confront them just as fast as I will a Christian, a Buddhist, an atheist. (my uncle is an avid atheist who is also in the upper 1/2 percent of the 1 percent of the nation in intelligence and uses it as a weapon against anyone who believes in religion, and he and I tangle a lot on that topic.)
Being Muslim is no more misguided than Being Christian, or being Buddhist, or Being Atheist. Their is nothing wrong with any of those beliefs as long as you don't hurt someone, and being a member of those beliefs does not equal automatic human rights violations.
BTW my close friend's husband was a refuge, who speaks excellent Arabic, has seen a lot of horrors done in the name of Islam, and is well aware of the radical justifications of the Qur'an, very scholarly, and can debate anyone under the table on how , like the Bible, the Qur'an can be misinterpreted to justify anything.
