Good morning and have a GREAT day Karl. You deserve it after all you have been through!

It is nice, isn't it Karl? I like hearing from people in so many differnt areas - both of the US and the world!
I've been cuttind down on my beer consumption (whcih is mostly just a few on the weekend, so I don't know how much it will help) to try and loose some weight. Everything in moderation is how I see it.

Well, my OE Sammy has successfully hatched 5 out of the 6 eggs I gave her.

She certainly did better than I did with the incubators. And unlike crazy Ginger -who is playing at being broody again - she did not consume her young. She is VERY protective and a good mama so far. One of the little guys - I think it's a Blue Marans - has curled up feet, though. I gave it vitamins and have been taking it out to press it's feet flat to try and straighten them out. Maybe I'll need to make a splint. One foot is worse than the other, and it can sort of hop around. Here they are:

Math Ace - any clue on the colors? I didn't want any Black ones since I already have a FBCM, but it looks like the one without a spot on it's head is a black. Which is okay, as a friend of mine wants one. If it's a pullet, anyway. I'm going to try and feather sex these. I think my guesses on the last batch were mostly correct. Sammy is so protective, though, that she pecks my hand when I reach in there. Maybe gloves are the answer......
Well, time to get the little guy to camp. Have a great day, folks!

Morning folks,

Was up at 5:00 or so. Had a bad dream, about chicks and ducklings. I don't have ducklings but in the dream their pen was dirty and they were dieing and had mites.
hu.gif
. Not sure where that one came from cuz like I said I don't have ducks. Anyhow made coffee and wash some waterers and let the chickens out earlier than usual. I hope it inspires them to lay more, though I suspect a molt is going on considering all the feathers in the yard.

Then listened some of Matthew on the computer. I have Alexander Scourby CD's. He is really good. He has a website if you have a mind to look. His recordings used to be free but now his estate charges for them.

Karl - that was a nice commment and I agree. It's funny to see the look on friends faces when I mention friends in MO, or GA, or TX or AL or whereever. Oh yeah can't forget my friend in Ireland.

Chics - those are cute chicks but you won't persuade me. I have two hens that appear to be determined to go broody. I have no room for chicks and it's hard to get rid of them here these days. Even for free.

Well I'm waiting for Paul to call so we can finish this fencing. Take care,

Rancher

Karl - we will MISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS you too!!!!!!!! If you stay away too long so DON'T!!!! Just get well again and take care of yourself and yours.

Chicks - Love the Chicks !!! Bertha is still off her feet and I am pretty sure she may not stand again. I have taken to putting her in my arms while I do my morning rounds and we have a little chat to God about her wee foot and leg and we ask him to make it better and help her to have no pain. So it is up to the good lord what he decides - of course he may think he needs another chicken for his yard upstairs to go with his cattle on a thousand hills - we will see?

Rancher - Well now Billy Sunday That was a character - Shows your age though if you remember him!!!!! - He practically fell out of the ark! Are you really that OLD?

We all have different views on things and different reasons behind the way we interpret stuff particularly when it comes to Religion and the Church. Billy Sunday did a great deal to help folk see the evils of too much drink, something sadly a lot of folk were suffering with at that time and still do today.

I am not so sure about wine in biblical days not having alcohol in it though. There is a very strong argument that they did brew Wine very like ours today. Back in Roman times they were very, very good at keeping all sorts of records about things and so there is quite a bit of evidence supporting that theory, though some like yourself feel very differently. I go by the word of God and of course the social history of the time. There are many references to Wine in the bible and indeed that of alcohol consumption in excess. You can find this throughout the bible from Geneses to Revelation. For example 1 Kings 20:16, Genesis 43:34, Zachariah 9:15, Judges 16:25, Esther 5:6, through Revelation 17:2. The most recognized events in the New Testament are those of Jesus turning Water into Wine at a Wedding feast John 2, and also his advice to Timothy regarding his bad stomach,1Timothy 5:23. Then there is the story of the holy spirit coming at Pentecost When the disciples were given the gift of the Holy Spirit Acts 2: 1-13. They were mocked and accused of being drunk.

Some folk argue that there was no alcohol in the days of the bible and use this to advocate total abstinance amongst believers. However these verses provoke one to ask why so many would act drunk if they were drinking something that had no alcohol content or why they should be accused of being Drunk because they acted in a bazaar way???? Personally I believe that Wine was alcoholic in those days as the evidence is overwhelming. However when Jesus turned water to wine - he did not say now go get drunk and do all the rotten things that comes with over indulgence! NO he didn't he gave them free choice. I also think there is an element of healing in a good wine or Jesus would not have told Timothy to use it for his stomach complaint. (We do not know what this was or why Jesus chose not to heal him immediately but instead get him to rely on a little wine?)

As a Christian and a brewer of wine - I feel no guilt in what I do and it is really good stuff!!! Thankfully I was brought up to respect drink and not abuse it. Sadly some folk cannot limit themselves and they have real issues. I don’t believe the problem is with the alcohol but rather within the person who cannot control what they do with it. In the same way guns are not Evil the folk who use them for Evil are! Chocolate is lovely but too much and you get Fat and unhealthy. The Chocolate is not the problem. It is all about doing things in moderation and using those things for good and not bad. I am sorry you have had a bad experience with alcohol Rancher I really am as wine making is a wonderful hobby that I so wish you could enjoy! I do understand where your comming from though.

Well Paul showed up and we got the rest of the panels up with few mistakes. I'm not a professional but still it's looks good. Today was his 30th, so we just put up the panels and called it a day. He's a good brother in the lord.

Oesdog - If you think I'm old cuz I know who Billy Sunday is , I wonder what you think that I know who Charles Finney was. He's before even Billy's time. I won't get into the alcohol thing its' just to much and not why I'm here. My comments were for Karl. You do whatever your conscience allows. I'm good with that. "All things are lawful but not everything is expedient". Just cuz we can do it doesn't mean we should. Not if it may be a stumbling block to our brother or sister. Still I didn't mean to get off track of why I became a member of BYC.

Sorry.

Now back to chickens. There's still lots to do outside but Darcy is napping and mom has gone to pick up Chinese food. Didn't let the chickens out into the yard today and hope to mow some grass. Have to cut up the old fence panels too. One thing out here is what to do with the junk. Anyone here have that problem? I've no truck so there is no way to take it to the dump.

Anyone here have junk thrown out into the woods by previous owners? Lord have mercy there are tires and old metal beds and a washer and a refrigerator. I can't lift this stuff but sure would like to get it out of the woods. Can't take tires to the shop cuz they charge $2.50 each and there must be at least $100 worth in the woods. Any ideas on how I can get this stuff cleaned out?

Well dinner is here and periodicals (church tracts) is tonight at 7:30. I just sit and fold brochures til 9:00. It's nice to talk with friends while we work. I'll pay to send the new Water of Life to anyone who wants to see it. It's all about the ministry in India.

take care,

Rancher

No need to be sorry Rancher it was a very good conversation. no offence taken and I am sure Karl wouldn't either! Were all friends here and discusion is always good. Yes its a coffee thread but good to talk about things that come up too!! I mean if we all met up for a coffee out together I am sure many conversations about a variety of issues would arise!
Your a good man - stop worrying !!!!!!

Good morning people,
Karl: See you on the flip side.
Everyone ready for their holiday weekend? I have to high school graduation parties to go to, a niece (pig roast) and nephew (Italian food). These are the last of the "kids" in the family.
We are thinking of getting a few more chickens. 14 hens and we still can't keep up with the egg requests. No more chicken coops, 2 are enough. I am hoping to build a shed this summer to store our outside tools (another place for me to hide) etc in. I can still make mud balls from the dirt in the garden. Last year, bone dry, this year, mud. A couple more weeks before the meaties head off to freezer camp.
Everyone enjoy your holiday.

Morning folks,

Just got off the phone with DB. They're moving to NC tomorrow. His DW is down there already and his DD and GD are coming to pick him and the last of his stuff for the journey south. He doesn't really want go but that's what happens when you get old I guess. Course I should know I'm not far behind. He and I aren't real close or weren't. I have another bro. and his down there too. I'm getting sick of folks moving away especially my kids. One in TX and one in AL and my grandchildren. This state is just the worst. I realize my DS and his are in the military but Lord have mercy we can't afford all the traveling back and forth and neither can they.

Que - graduations are done and even though the church is having a pig roast we didn't sign up. I don't care for pig roasts much. I've got the beginnings of two hoop coops but I'm having second thoughts. Chickens aren't laying well at all. 6 eggs for as many hens as I have is just not acceptable. I'm discouraged and ready to get rid of them all. Sometimes it's hard to call it quits and take the hit. I did sell the silkies and tried these blasted brwn leghorns. The folks for the lghns were no shows. I hate that. They're still posted on CL so only the good Lord knows if someone else will call. I guess I'll still working on a small coop for them just in case I have to keep them. Lghns are not a friendly breed, though there may be exceptions.

Still lots to do in the yard and garden. Cutting up the old fencing and bundling it up. I have no idea what I want to do with it. We have no fire pit and I'm not up to putting one in. Lady nextdoor said she'd take it but I said that ain't happening. She wants to help bundle it up fine but she and hers only work part time and they're younger than me. They could do it. They're on the dole you know. Gets Section 8 and he's not supposed to live there. Sorry but me popping pain pills just to do what I gotta do, I ain't doing all the work and then giving the wood away when they could help. It'll take me a month of Sundays to get it done.

Well everyone take care,

Places to go and people to annoy

Rancher
