Coffee's ready...

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Oesdog rhubarb sounds tasty, send me the recipe,If it is not a huge secret.
Weeded my garden again last night ,It feels good to get out and dig around in the dirt after all the infirmities suffered at the begining of the summer.
I lost a duck to something during the day yesterday,It was obvious that it had been eaten and it was floating in the pond,?I've never seen that befor.
Hope it is not the dog,Althought it may have been a cat that swims?

Oesdog, that wine sound so tasty! I'm going to look into making my own wine - and cheese.
Quercus - I'd love to see that article - let us know when it comes out.
Karl - sorry about your duck. I wonder what got it in the middle of a pond like that.

Well, apparently watching Sammy prance around the yard with her four pretty Marans babies was just too much for Sunshine. She's broody again - parked herself in everyone's favorite nest box and screams at me when I open the top. That is broody number four this summer - I explained to her that we have too many chicks now, and she has already gotten the experience of being a Mama. Actually, since she is having laying issues it might be a good idea to let her set and raise babies for a while so she can get a break. All her eggs are kind of mis-shapen and thin shelled anymore. If chicken math were a class I'd have an A+.

Well, gotta get some more work done on trying to get this little counseling buisness going with my friend. And the new coop, of course. Have a good one!

Chicks good luck with the business venture! You may want to start a mathnasium.I'm not sure what they are but it has been advertised on the radio around here as a sort of gym for the brain.I saw my old algebra teacher at a restaurant and she did not remember me but what I learned from her will never be forgotten by me.Math is the most useful tool in the toolbox.Guess maybe mathace should try it too!

Afternoon people,

I finished the last of the meaties today, 47 in the freezer. I must admit, they were the best group so far. Temps are rising here pretty good. Thursday we are going to the beach (I get to play the part of a beached whale). It should be good.

Chicks: Good luck in your endeavor. It's fun in the beginning, rocky in the middle, then a pleasant pace and a life of it's own.

Karl: You have snapping turtles in the pond?

I use to make my own beer, but got tired of finding cig butts in the bottles. I enjoy wine to much to desecrate it in a attempt to make some. To me, somethings are better left alone. I think my doctor would shoot me if she found out I was making cheese.

Enjoy the day

Good morning chicken wranglers,
Q the meaties went well I see. What did they wiegh in at?My girls are still too light to butcher,I'm figuring around 2nd week in august.I don't know about the snapping turtles. It could well be that there may be a lone meanice in the pond.I have only ever seen one turtle out there in the last three years.
To coin the fraise I hear only on Electric company Heyyy you guys!!!!! Where are you?
Looking forward to reading your posts,as ever Karl
God Bless!

Morning folks. I'm skipping the usual 2 hours or so I usually spend outside working on the coop this morning, as I have to go meet the principal at the new school they have assigned me to, and I don't want to get sweaty out there. They put me at the school for "Emotionally and Behaviorally Disabled" children.

My boss said my clinical skills are so good (really she was just buttering me up, I think) that that's where I should be. No good deed goes unpunished, folks......

It may be a good challenge for me, really. After 13 years with the chronic mentally ill adults, I supposed I can handle it.

The buisness will just be a little counseling a few times a week, with the intention of renting office space to other counselors that just need it part-time, too. I've found a property with a perfect size office for that purpose in a good location, and it has two residential rentals attached so the mortgage will be mostly covered. I can't spend too much on it since it is only for use part-time, and I won't be generating enough income to cover a mortgage just with the buisness. So I'm trying to wrangle up some financing now.

Well, time to find more things to do indoors. I don't feel like cleaning until the girls are closer to going back to their mom's house - that way it will last longer.

Good morning people,

Karl: my condolence to you and his family for the loss of you friend. Old man winter took a few of my friends last year.

The smallest birds were 4.5 - 5lbs ( they were the only ones that could fit into a large food saver bag. The other birds, I quartered to fit into the bags. Total count was 47 birds. We have a small freezer that is filled with them, plus the large freezer has a couple of boxes of chicken.

My bother in law use to work on a hunting preserve as their bird man. He use to have the worst problem with the snappers with the duck pond. A elderly couple down the way use to love his problem, he would give them all the snappers. A little hint, after you think you have killed it, decapitated it and bury the head with a bit of lime, so no one gets hurt with it. I have seen some weird things happen with them after we "killed" them.

I am one of these people that stops and moves turtles off the except for the snappers. Most of the time they were the box and painted turtles. One day, we were following our daughter into to town and she see's a turtle. She stops to move (beat me to it ) it. I yell at her not to touch it. I went and grabbed a stick, poked it a few times till it latched onto the stick and dragged it off the road. It was a small one, 10 - 12", but big enough to remove a few fingers.

I caught a bug a few days back. The better half comes home, finds me sleeping on the floor ( nothing usually except ) under a fleece blanket and quilt shaking like a leaf. Didn't eat for 2 days, 102 fever, never knew I had so many joints that could hurt.

Enjoy the day,
