my chickens got some warm oatmeal and pumpkin last night, its so bitter cold and windy here everyone flew down off the roost for a good night snack.

I've got oatmeal with apple and banana warming up for my ladies this morning. I'll give your secret recipe a go tomorrow. and... psst.... mums the word.

Mine got some pelleted food with hot water mixed in, and then added cooked oatmeal, chopped apples, a little yogurt, some left over broccolli, and some granola mix this morning. I haven't tried giving them eggs, but that's a thought. They loved it.

I save all my leftovers for the birds in a bowl that ends up looking like a seven layer dip. If it gets low, I add cat food. This morning I will heat their servings up with a little cream of wheat. They eat everything and look good for 7 degrees in CT with a wind that will knock your socks off.

My chickens don't seem to like oatmeal or yogurt much. I have a Silky who LOVES fruit (especially watermelon) and bugs. RIR who prefers meat and vegetables, and absolutely LOVES egg shells. Throw her some broken egg shells and it's like Christmas for her!!! Then there's the BATAM FAMILY. GLW with her (4) 3 mo. old chicks (GLW / OEGB mixes) who I haven't really found what they like yet. They seem to really enjoy birdseed, but don't really like the table scraps much for some reason. So, my picky brood is sort of difficult to "cook" for. It takes me longer to make the chickens breakfast in the am than it takes to make breakfast for my husband and son!!!!

My 16 yr old will say " Their just chickens mom, you feed them better than us." But, if you ever say anything about her horse and her giving him treats she will jump all over you!
So around here it's double standards all the way around! LOL
