I think you need to remove the pus ASAP.

When I tube my peahen I empty 60 in a few seconds, disconnect syringe, connect new syringe and repeat. If the tube is in their crop this should not be a problem. You wrote that after several minutes she turned purple and I guess what I'm trying to say is that it should not take several minutes, especially if it's only 6 ml.

I would recommend trying to remove some of the puss, bacteria, cheese whatever you want to call it. If it’s blocking her airway it’s not good. I had a hen with stuff in the opening of her glottis. She didn’t like it, but every few days I would check her throat and remove what I could. I treated her with acidified copper sulfate. I honestly think me initially removing the substance saved her life.

On my other chicken's I tried apple cider vinegar, copper sulfate, nystatin, and metronidazole with no success. I did not try any of those on this hen. I believe if she had canker or thrush it should have shown on the lab test. I have asked my vet if she could have contracted canker after the lab test was done, due to the antibiotics used. Her glottis cannot be completely blocked or she wouldn't be alive. Though it isn't getting any better.

Should I go ahead and try copper sulfate or ACV on her?

If you read through the post I linked I did ACV and CS until the copper sulfate arrived. None of my other chickens ever showed signs of what that hen had. I ordered the ACS and Fishzole just in case.
It took forever to come in the mail (couldn’t get it locally) so until it arrived I gave her a combination of ACV with CS and picked the junk from her throat.
To date she is molting but had gone back to laying and is being her noisy self.

How do you recommend I remove the build-up with minimum stress. Maybe if I remove some bacteria first she will have more room to breathe when the tube is in her throat.

I have read all your articles on tube-feeding. It is a lot to take in, sometimes I feel overwhelmed! The website you posted is very informative.

Can I use hemp protein powder for tube-feeding her? How should I be treating the bacteria? What do you recommend? Have you ever used colloidal silver?

I will try to get pictures of her throat in the morning. I don't want to stress her more tonight.

I make my own. I use it for topical and ingestion(different ppms). I have taken it myself if I felt I was getting sick and I have used it as a preventative. The dogs and cats get it in their water. I haven't started the chickens on it yet, but I plan to. For topical I use 40-50 ppm, for ingestion I use no more then 15 ppms.

I know when I got bit breaking up a dog fight, that stuff healed me right up. It is great for respitory and bacteria issues. I personally would use it over antibiotics all day long. Antibiotics can destroy any good bacteria, making it a vicious circle.

Antibiotics...but it may be an infection that will keep coming back and may not be cureable. Some chicken disease don't ever go away.
