Colorado

It does reference a trial period in one section. I had misread it perhaps in my initial reading. May end up needing to call them if someone else does not have more info for you here. I looked on the BYC chicken laws and ordinances thread and did not find Mead listed.

I may just do that. Will definitely post back here and in the official ordinance section of the site if I'm able to get anything more recent. Thanks!

I've made plans to process my SS, but I would like to shake things up a bit more. So my younger EE is going to have to be re-homed. She's a very good layer - averages 5 green eggs a week; she's worth keeping, but not with my bantam chocolate Orpington.

Is anyone interested in my Peggy Sue?
How soon would you need to get rid of her? We may be interested in a week or two. We live near Colorado Springs.

Thanks @KLBCOS for responding. I am picking up two new chickens in Calhan on June 6, so will be in northeast Colorado Springs area then. That's the last day I will have Peggy Sue, and only if you're definitely taking her. I'm asking $25 for her. Why don't you PM me if you're still interested.

I'm interested. How much? :)

Well at 9 the rest of the flock that we are selling will be picked up. It is hard to see everyone go, I wonder how those left behind will react. Since the first five left, our flock is a lot more quiet. Looks like my BF and I settled on taking 7 layers and the 15 babies. We will be able to move our chickens to his mom's spot in the suburbs of Englewood until we can find the ideal spot. This is of course temporary, the housing market sucks. Anyway, we continue to look at spots and see if we can find something.

The chicken math epidemic started for a bit in our house given the bator hatching, the Cornish sitting on eggs and we had 38 for a couple weeks with the possiblility of hitting 46 depending on the Cornish hatch. Amazing how fast it can get out of control.

That is great you found homes for all the birds so quickly.
It is so true that chicken math gets out of control quickly.
I have about 35 birds here right now. Reading that and admitting to myself I have that many is a wake up call in it self.

5 will be going to a new home in a few weeks. I have enough room but I just don't need that many eggs and the food bill is higher than I like.
I am seriously thinking of culling the flock down to 15 or 17 this Fall.
I have 7 bantam/polish that I will keep as 'pets'. They are small and pretty and don't take up much room and don't eat much. So they will get a pass. But trying to decide who stays and who goes is going to be brutal.

What are the rest of you doing with all your hatches and birds? What do you do with all your roosters? I have two and don't really want any. I might keep one..but I don't know.

Yep, crazy chicken math is on the rise here too! I was down to 12 LF laying hens, and two rooster over the winter, now back up to 17 hens in the laying pen, not including my new Marans that I am growing out. It does have a way of sneaking up on you!
Don't want to count my Bantams........

but, they don't eat as much as my LF, so not going to complain.

Well, I guess the positive to this is that we had laying hens at the right time to get rid of them, I had probably 12 responses to my ad on CL. The people who picked up the birds have a free range egg business and hatched out 600 birds! Anyway, trying to decide who would go and stay was hard and not so hard. Funny because all the one's we kept are named. Of course certain birds I just can't see giving up, ever. Like Left Eye our blind in one eye Delaware, Little One the friendliest EE, etc. funny because their laying ability were a factor but not the deciding factor, we picked the more gentle sweet girls to go with us. Most of the girls we picked are on the smaller side.

Our roo we will hang onto until we move, kept him as the guard for the remaining flock and the babies. Now I have to work on an integration plan for the 5 weeks olds. Any tips or advice is welcomed. I know to have openings into the run or coop only big enough for the littles to fit through if they need to escape. I heard doing it while everyone is free ranging works well.

That is what I have done, several times and never, ever had a problem.
