Two things:

We have TWO female geese, not just one! YAY!

So that makes it 2 girls and one boy. YAY!!! We got two eggs this morning! So does anyone know, will he mate both of them?


Also, I'm going to be selling chickies tomorrow at the DUH chicken swap, a mix of 2 week old straight run bantams. How much would you sell them for? $3.59 each is the regular price from the hatchery + shipping charges. $0.88 each to raise them so far. So total, at regular price would be $4.47. I can do a really **** good guess on what most of them are, at the very least I can narrow it down to two breeds for most of them. It's still a crap shoot as to whether they are male or female, but is $4.50 asking too little or too much?

I should read all the posts first! Where is the DUH chicken swap? What are the hours of the swap?

$4.50 is a bargain for chicks you have raised nearly to the point of not needing heat. If this swap is usually popular for people looking for bantams I'd say at least $5 and perhaps even $5.50. I guess the way I calculate it is that you have not only the cost of purchasing, shipping, and feeding, you have electricity and time invested, which have value. I realize these are not top of the line, show quality chicks, although some could turn out to be show quality, but they are carefully tended chicks well past the first week, which is the most likely time to lose chicks. Don't sell yourself short. If you get there and several others have similar chicks priced lower and they are not selling out immediately, then yes I would consider $4.50, but otherwise I would ask $5 if you want to sell out and $5.50 if you don't mind bringing some home with you. All depends on attendance, of course, combined with your desire to sell them now rather than later. Once they are past needing heat I ask $8.

And, how incredibly cool on your geese! What kind are they again? As far as I know the male will mate both. Are you able to tell the eggs apart? If so, mark them and try incubating and see what the hatch rate is for each marking. If not I would still incubate and if the hatch rate exceeds 50% it is probable the male is mating them both. Too cool!!!

Shed update:

Floor is done. Glued and screwed. Bob says it is stouter than the floor in our house. Walls tomorrow. Fingers crossed they go well enough that we are able to start on trusses.

Adam7, any tips on cutting off the corners (edges) of the trusses such that they are flush with one another after they are installed on top of the walls? Bob keeps saying, whoever told you Guillermo specializes in cull lumber is totally right. I keep saying it was one of the CO BYC forum members. He is so immersed in the project now, it is tantamount to his new job. If there was ever a good time for him to be laid off, this is it.

I'm having a hard time imagining your situation. Are you talking about the rafter tails? The part of the rafter that makes the soffit?
