Colorado

Thank you!! Mine too!

One minute they are all outside, enjoying the sunshine, and the next, I hear a wind gust shake/rattle/roll my house, look outside, and the chickens are hurrying as fast as they can to their coop. I throw on my duds, get my kid to help and by the time we get outside, the rooster has the girls huddled in a group outside the pen. Couldn't get in ... the wind had slammed the door shut.

Good rooster.

A chicken party is kinda like a barn raising. Bunch of chicken people get together, or even just a bunch of people with one person who has chickens, and you butcher a bunch of birds

It makes alot of sense, cause if your gonna do some you might as well do more, and have help in the bargain! People can bring food and drinks and have a good time bonding and such

I've thought about doing that when the time comes for us to process some of ours. I'd like to do them myself instead of taking them to the processor, but I'd like to have someone around who has done it before to help out

That chicken party sounds fun. I'd be willing to do that. I should have some ready to process by the end of summer. Maybe when we're ready, we should start a new thread? Any please, anybody could take my gizzards and innards coz I just want the meat!

I believe Simla Locker plant processes poultry too but don't know the charge per bird. They've done well on our wild game & beef in the past.

Set my first group of eggs when we had daytime weather above freezing. My hens have been laying and roo willing. Coopa--that is funny! the hens gotta be wondering that all right! I know I was ready to be done with what little winter we've had. I could barely drive up a small icy incline tonight on the way home....even after getting new tires.

rocky mountain poultry processing or northern colorado poultry processing (can't remember which is the new name and which is the old one) just reopened and processes for $3 per bird. I'm thinking about ordering meaties and using them.

jdopler, sounds good. now, depending on how many people we get and where everyone is, we'll have to decide some sort of central location! won't that be "fun"!

I was going to say I'm surprised your having problems with your EE's, but then I remembered we free range our birds, so my EE goes where she wishes

However, two sides of the back area are fenced and she hasn't yet crossed those fences, so dunno. maybe she's just happy with the acreage she's got? Sorry you've got escapees!
