Ooops. They are sold out of Anconas for 2011 - but they have the other chickens listed above. If anyone wants to join our order - give me a PM in the next couple days.

Thank you for the websites. I may take you up on Whitemore for some BCM's. However, I have yet to hear back from a few possible prospects that may be able to provide with Ameraucanas, Silkies and BCM's. I will let you know, hopefully soon.

Thanks again.

Hi Corban. In my search for chicks, I found a hatchery in Hudson, Colorado called Fulenwider Farms. I don't know how much of their stock they breed and how much they buy from hatcheries. Here's their link: http://www.fulenwiderfarms.com/Waterfowl---Poultry.html

I
am placing a joint order with some other Colorado chicken lovers to Whitmore Farm. http://www.whitmorefarm.com/content/5063 We are ordering Welsummers, Anconas, and Ameraucanas, but they also have black and blue copper marans. If you (or any other Colorado folks) would be interested in joining our order, please send me a PM. We are coordinating delivery on both sides of the continental divide!

FYI - I believe Eric Fulenwider is still President of the Colo. Poultry Assn.

(Hi Jamie!)

Thanks again, I sent an email to get some information from Fulenwider. All of you have been very helpful!

What kind of turkeys? I'm obsessed with turkeys this year. I'm trying to hatch just about all that my two BR hens lay, except for the eggs that I trade on here...

Here are my latest 4. I hatched them in my 1st grade classroom, I can't believe all 4 eggs hatched... around 22 crazy screaming 6 and 7 year olds! They're 2 and 3 days old.

I also hatched 4 of Aussieheeler's Maran's! They are soooo cute and soft!!! I'll go get a picture of them too! Just had to share!

what cute babies!!
My girls are bourbon red/royal palm cross and I'm thinking my tom is a BBB. so they'll be little mutts, but I don't really care I am just excited that these girls (not even a year old yet) are broody and setting!
I will try tomorrow for a picture of the two sitting on one nest, it is so adorable!

Jana, great to hear your turkey hens are setting. That hissing and biting is a bit intimidating isn't it? They aren't joking either, believe me I know. I raise Blue Slates. I have 14 in the bator right now, due next Thursday. Last year, my hen set on her eggs, but that was later in the year. She was a mean biter when she was on the nest. Don't plan on checking out those little poults unless you are wearing leather gloves and thick long sleeves. LOL

Hi fellow Coloradoans! I live in Broomfield so I thought I'd pop in and say "hi". A few years ago I wanted a couple chickens but when I called the city I was told that they aren't allowed. This year I decided to go ahead and do it. I will only have three and won't be building a permanent structure to house them in. My husband and I plan on having a chicken tractor that we can move around the yard almost daily. We're hoping it will be good for the grass and good for the chickens. Right now they are one week old and are in the brooder. I suspect that there are a lot of people keeping chickens on the "down low". We have good, mind-our-own-business, neighbors so I don't see them turning us in. We won't have roosters and the hens will be much quieter than some of the neighborhood dogs. I'm so glad I found this website. I've learned a ton of information!

Good luck with your stealth chickens. Since the hens are pretty quiet you should do OK. I have ducks though. I think the whole neighborhood knows I have ducks, but they are still quieter than the dogs so no biggie

Thanks Jana! Good luck with yours. I haven't let anyone go/get broody yet. We've always just eatten all the eggs until this year. Yesterday though, I had to push one of my BR hens out of the nest box with my egg basket. She didn't want to get up and I thought, OH NO, she's gone broody and I need too many eggs from her this week! LOL Luckily she didn't bite or hiss. She was just a little stubborn.

Hey, that's my 100th post!

Hey there....! Our spring hopes up here in the hinterland have been dashed this weekend with 5 more inches of snow. Shheeesh! NO MORE!!!!!

I have a darling millefleur cochin bantam pair that I am offering for sale. Please PM me if you are interested and I will brave the cold today and get some pictures. This week I am going to be on the Front Range and so can deliver easily along 1/70 or w/in the Denver area.

I also have a few Norwegian Jaerhon chicks if anyone is interested!

I *love* the breed as they are so adaptable to mountain life and free-ranging: they are cold-hardy and alert/predator-wary. I have had quite a variety of breeds over the years, but Jaerhons are my best winter layers. The eggs are a creamy white and as large as my Welsummers and Marans eggs. The hens and pullets also blend in well, get along in a flock well and I have found the roos to be very easy to keep, gentle guys. I love that the some of the pullets like to fly up on my shoulders! They are active and able to fly up and away from predators in the forest here.
