yay! i got my coop and run!


it still need some painting inside and the walkway between the door and the run build but we're alot closer now!

there are 4 more nesting boxes on the other side and the roosts go the entire 6 ft length

the vents on back

this is the foor.. not sure if i want to keep the wire or throw some plywood over it..... opinions?

Does anyone know of any swaps in 5 or 6 week? I have a strong feeling that one of my EE's is a boy. He/She stands more erect then the others and his/her bum is more rounded.

Hey Minch the Denver Homesteading Swap is the first Sat of every month from 10-12pm. There's one up here in Brighton at the Co-op but not sure what dates. And JT Feeds in Greeley has on every month that sounds like a good one.

WOW it was hot today....and yet I just know that we will soon be saying, "When will it get back down to the cool 80's".

My new favorite drink for a perfect end to a hot Colorado Day. An Arnold Palmer (Lemonade mixed with Iced Tea) but with the additon of Sweet Tea Flavored Vodka...inlue of simple sun tea. Its amazing awesome.

This morning I went out to check on the chicks before work. As I put my hand on the edge of the brooder, one of those disgusting miller moths we get here in Colorado this time of year fell off and fell into the brooder. The largest fo the chicks, a cockerel my kids are calling Shrek, caught it and started a game of keep away with the other chicks before he ate it. Way entertaining.

Funny about these Dominique chicks; they would rather scratch and peck for food than eat from the feeder. So I put a handfull of crumbles on the floor of the brooder, which has a 2 inch layer of shavings, and it keeps them busy for hours. Dominiques are known for their foraging prowess, and some claim that they consume 50% less feed than their other breeds because they are so good at foraging.

my chicks love playing keep away with the moths too!! My 4 yr old hunts for them every morning because he knows a few of them always manage to get in the house some how.

Yesterday they went after the tiny black spiders that roam around. the spiders would try to get deep into the shavings, but the chicks would scratch them up and go after them as they found them. I hate spiders, so this is a good thing.

Yesterday I noticed they were already trying to fly a bit, so I put two 4 X 4 scraps into one end of the brroder and laid two 2 X 4 srcaps over them to form a sort of roost. Again, very entertaining. The pullets were much more curious and able to get up on the boards sooner than the cockerals.
