JUST KIDDING!

Silkies are not real chickens anymore than toy poodles are dogs.

But I do so love the ones I have and hopefully, the ones that hatch in about 2 weeks. Lol..usually the first thing that comes out of peoples mouths when they see a silkie for the first time is, 'that's a chicken?'. Yup, it's a chicken.

Well....I suppose........

It did hatch from an egg, clucks, and acts like a chicken......

I remember the first time I saw a silkie. My jaw dropped and I couldn't believe it. A grown chicken that was still covered in down? I was a teenager at a State fair. My dad was with me and said something like, "doesn't even look like a chicken, probably doesn't taste good and the eggs aren't any good" or something like that. Its been too long ago. He was too caught up in Barred rocks, and looking for what he called, 'that leaner rose combed barred rock" type chicken, whose bars don't line up....... Hmmmm,.......... DOMINIQUES!

Sounds like a plan. I was going to start on the hen house yesterday afternoon and today, but (gasp) I think I would rather stay in the house this afternoon and help with laundry.....

got to drop off the youngest daughter in Fountain at 9, then off to the bank and then to meet the chicken gang up in Colorado Springs at 10:30. I still have to prepare my Sunday School lesson.

I went out at about 6 to hang with the chickens and think about the hen house. while there, the young cockerels were all playing whose the Rooster, and one of them dared flare his hackles at the Jake... Then Jake went on a ramage for about 5 minutes, chasing anychicken who dared even look at him wrong. Very funny to watch. Cockerels running every which way trying to get away from the crazy Narragansett jake!

This weekend is just going to HOT...I took care of the waterers this morning (added a bit of apple cider vineger) and topped off their food in thier hoppers. They will spend much of the day lounging in the shade under the trees. It is about 10 degrees cooler under the trees, even on the hottest days.

For those of you who were asking about ACV...........everything I have found online, and what I give more weight to is what is said on the Old Timers thread .......says that the ACV is of no value unless it's the non homogenized stuff with MOTHER.

I have looked at both WalMart and King Soopers and they don't carry it. The only place I've found it has been natural foods markets and health food stores. I sure don't know enough about the chemistry to make a judgement, just thought I'd pass it along.

Also, I keep ACV in their water all the time. Am I overdoing it? Do ya think there's any harm in doing that?

I can see the Waldo Canyon, Pyramid Fire, from my house out here in Falcon. It makes me sad every time I hear about a wildland fire as it takes so little in this low humidity/ high temperature to really have it get out of control. If someone needs a place to stay or a place to evacuate to from over there, just PM me. I have an extra bedroom and can section an area off for chickens. Be safe everyone.
