You know.......

I've seen owl statues/figures to put in one's yard, but given that hawks and owls don't like crows, I wonder if one could put a couple of crow statues or figures in the yard and keep the hawks and owls away........
can't hurt... I'll start to keep my eye out for such a thing...can't imagine they are very common :)

send Beth best wishes from Tami and me.

Do you need anything?

I didn't even get to check on the chickens yesterday.

Took Beth in for Chemo, but ended up putting her in the hospital (Penrose main). We're hoping she'll be able to come home today. They drained 1 1/2 liters of fluid from her right lung. Haven't talked to her yet this morning, but she was breathing better last night and the O2 usage was down. She said she felt better but was very tired. We know that the fluid is there at least in pat because of the tumors, however the Docs are still trying to detmine why the fluid is building up so quickly.

I'll post an update later this afternoon.

Sending warm thoughts to your family. Let us know if you need anything. I'm sure the ones closest to you can wrestle up a schedule for dropped meals for when she gets home. Just let us know.

We appreciate that. With older children at home, they have stepped up as usual (not their first time around with this sort of thing) The ladies at church are also on the ball with things, and provided dinner last night and tonight as well.
Again, thanks for the thoughts

Wendell,

I had one of the silkies born last month that has been weird for a while. She's always been small and her crop was always full and her poop was normal when I separated her. I found her today dead and she had the watery ick like your small Dom. did. All the poop in the rest of the coop today looks normal, no more shedding this morning. She was about 10 weeks today.

I've done searches on what it could be and can't find much actually. Coccidiosis often has the fluidy like at death but then the feces is bloody. I have no idea though. But I lost the second smallest chick this morning.

Could she have been trampled by bigger birds? I didn't see any evidence of that. But that wouldn't have explained her small size. I didn't see any evidence of pecking from the suspected pecking incident yesterday morning.

I am going to finish a section in the house today for the smallest of birds.

Thats odd. Our little dom that died appeared to have had some sort of birth defect that didn't allow her spine to grow at the same rate as the rest of her organs, etc. Add to the mix that she was somewhat picked on because of it and it went down from there. It didn't show up until she was about 6 weeks old.

try looking at thrift stores and at halloween stuff at other stores. I've seen alot of those fake crows that people use as decorations and its the right time of yr to start finding that type of stuff

i actually saw a hawk in our yard the other day too. It was a younger one and since i had the hose on i sprayed it. I hit it hard enough to knock it out of our tree. lol. I haven't seen it since, but the kids keep an eye out for them now.

I wonder if they are around town more because so much of their hunting ground got burned with all the fires.
