Help me figure out what the standard names of these Cochins would be? Sorry for the red tint from their heat lamps. Yes, I use hear lamps. I’m a long-time reptile keeper. I stand by the lamp. No lectures, please!

Really? I doubt your friends have lost birds to the cold. 19 is not that cold (no offense- I understand cold is relative!)
My birds are alive and thriving with no heat (well, my adults) in MINUS 50 (yes, five zero) degrees Farehneit.

Yeah it's been single digits at night here and they have been fine.

When we go from a warm house to outside we put on a coat which helps make the temperature change not be such a shock. The birds don't have that option and will acclimate to the temps better if they aren't going from a very warm area out into the cold.

I've had 5 week old chicks outside without heat during a 17F cold snap. It wasn't supposed to get that cold, but it did. The chicks were just fine. As long as they have a shelter so they can get out of the wind, they don't need extra heat.
