Colored Rangers Grow Out Journal/ Video Added pg 11

They look awesome for five weeks, especially with colder temps

Thanks Jeff. We have been very pleased with what we have seen from them so far. The day time temps have been 40-50 degs and night times 27-31degs at nights. Every morning they are at the door pushing and peeping to get out and run.

Nice video too.... I was getting sea sick trying to keep up with the chickens.....

Thanks, it was tough to film them as I was trying to show them running and flying. I caught the one flying but you have to watch very careful to see it. I thought it would be a nice little visual for everybody to see.

I bet the next batch does circles around the one you currently have. When the grass starts to grow and the temps go up a bit. There will be a lot more insects out and more grass to eat, it will be interesting to see how they do.

Yes it will. I have been keeping very good records on feed consumption. Can't wait for April 1st to see what we have far as weights go ??? The way they are eating and growing I think 12 weeks might be too much, but we will see??

I honestly think the same, they look really close to 5 week old cornish. Especially given the temperatures they are preforming at.
I hate to say it now... as it's still so early but they could very well be at a good live weight at 8-10 weeks..... I'm not going to say any more

How are the newbies doing?

They are all doing great, for some reason with in the first 24 hrs I lost 8 this time, seemed like they where a little smaller. But now all are doing great and all normal.

Do you have another batch ordered or is this it for a while?

Well I'm set up for a 100 every 4 weeks till Oct., with the option to up it to 200 every 4 weeks in the summer when everyone likes to spend money, if they do this year ???

There could be a number of reasons for smaller chicks but as for the deaths of 8. You can't really pin that on the hardiness of the breed as that's a long way to ship chicks, which I'm sure your already aware of. I was just curious to how they ship in colder weather compared to the cornish. But mine are only traveling about 8 hours.

It's a shame that there isn't anything like these freedom rangers out in the west.

This makes me want to order mine MORE AND MORE...still not 100% that I want to get them but I really love the look and idea of them. Compared to the cornish. How much food have you gone through so far?

That's less than you thought though, isn't it? We're you shooting for like 1200? I need to go back through the posts I guess, but I had that total in my mind.
