I am using an incubator you cannot add water to by opening it up and yesterday I must have missed the auto turner slot and stuck it in an egg because I opened it to this this morning. It's a polish egg currently on day 15.
There is still movement in the egg. It's a pretty big hole as you can see, I've put sticky tape over the hole and put it in a separate incubator.
Is there anything I could do for it or is it better to put the chick out of its misery, if so how should I do it? Would putting it in the freezer be ok?

Am feeling pretty crappy right now and like an absolute monster.

:fl Hopefully someone will respond shortly. Looks like there's bleeding so some vessels probably got damaged. You could try ... IF you're able to remove the tape without damaging the rest of the shell, try removing & put a piece of paper towel that fits over the crack, put coconut oil on the inner side & outside to seal the crack. That's what I would do but not saying it's the right thing to do.

As for the freezer, that's my answer to "putting an end" but not sure it's the fastest & most humane. Sorry this happened to you :hugs

I'm a little confused, not that it matters, but I just want to know... When you were trying to put water you accidentally cracked the egg?

I'm going to guess that there is a good chance this egg is already dying.

There's been some bleeding, which is not a great sign. But if it's still alive, I wouldn't give up yet.

Do you have other eggs that you are not incubating available? What I would try to do is break off a piece of shell from another egg to make a "shell patch" for the hole, then seal it onto the egg with tape or wax.

This may or may not work. Like Kiki said, it may already be on the way out, especially with the bleeding.

Thank you, I think it may have died, I couldn't see any movement but I patched it up with some more egg she'll, just in case. I just hope it hasn't felt too much pain or discomfort.

There's no external place to put water in to adjust the humidity so you have to lift the lid to do so. I usually keep the lid cracked open to watch the egg turning rod as it goes in to avoid this kind of thing happening but for some idiotic reason didn't do it this time. It's so much worse cracking the egg when the chick is this far along in development too.

That's a great idea, never thought of it.

Many years ago (mid 1980s) had an incubator like that, sorry this happened to you but we learn. My brother gave it to me, he always half starts ideas  I did hatch some found geese eggs in it, improvised alot. That's where I learned of "exploding" eggs :( Manu & Kai hatched, they were so much fun :love
