Colourful and Unusual Chicken Eggs!

This is so fun to see! I started my flock with the intention of creating a dazzling array of colourful eggs but none of mine are laying yet (and I'm still completing the crew- I have 14 chickens currently and another 13 in the mail that should be arriving tomorrow!!!:ya)

I've got one or more of nearly every colourful breed as well as a variety of egg sizes, except I still don't have any Olive Eggers or true blue layers (though I've got four Easter Eggers so I'm excited to see what colours they lay!)
How old are your chickens? I raised all of mine from chicks too, and it seems like it takes so long to get that first egg! But it is so worth it! And I really enjoy raising little chicks and seeing them grow! And just wait till you hear them singing the "egg song"! It makes my day every time I'm home to hear it! :love

Wow! That sounds great, it’s going to be so fun raising them while thinking about the eggs you will end up with. Keep us updated! :pop

My eldest flock is 9.5 weeks old and the teenagers who have just integrated in with them out in the coop are 4.5 weeks old. I just received my babies today, who are now three days old!!! Originally I had wanted to just buy hens but I'm so glad I decided to buy them as chicks....they are so sweet and fun and I think raising them has really enhanced our bond as well as made them an incredibly gentle flock.

Unfortunately, most of my eldest chicks ended up being cockerels despite being sold as pullets, and the straight run teens it's too hard to tell yet (they're the pretty birds anyway mostly, silkies and polish and EE's), so I'm going to have to wait until this new crew of pullets grow up before I get my beautiful egg basket!

I I had the same problem! Ended up with many roosters that I had to find new homes for. I kept one, my Svarthonas are such a nice pair that I couldn't stand to split them up. And he is very protective of his little hen! I'll keep them together as long as my neighbors don't complain! But it is interesting to watch the dynamics of having a rooster in the flock!

With the exception of a single Australorp, mine are all mutts and I love seeing what pops out when they start to lay. I have a Brahma cross roo now and am trying to choose between a Wyandotte and a welsummer cockerels for a back up roo. Next year I think I’ll go for a white laying breed. I saw you mention that you have an Ancona, OP. I have a couple Ancona mixes and they are absolutely my best layers. I would love an Ancona roo for next year!
