Columbian Rock Thread!!!!

We got 4 pullets the hatchery marked as CR, and when I searched it, this thread came up. At 2.5 weeks, one has barred wings, but the other 3 have the mostly white, with black coming in at neck and tail. I can't wait to see how they grow out now, they are my MIL's that I'm raising, and were substituted for RIR as they had a bad hatch, I guess.

Evening all....been 4+ days of NOTHING but rain. I let out my "grow out cockerels" this afternoon. Pictures aren't great, but gives you an idea of the type I have kept...best 5 I raised this year. These cockerels are 6 1/2 months old, from 2 different sires

I have two columbian rocks in my flock of twelve. this is one of them. She's about 20 weeks old and laid her first egg a week or two ago.
She has been faithfully laying an egg a day ever since.

Here are pix from this morning of the 4 cockerels that have made the first 4 rounds of "cuts"....will keep the best 2 out of these. They are 7 months old and range from exactly 8lbs to 9lbs 2 oz

Thanks.....last I checked there are NO hatcheries that carry true Columbian Rocks (at least in the United States)

I purchased 12 from Tractor Supply this past Spring. I do love them and they seem quite friendly, even the roosters. I have one in particular that is rather bonded to me. lol I had no idea they were considered rare!? we just marked out 4 rooster to put in the freezer because I have WAY too many roosters for my poor hens.

If they are coming from a hatchery to the feed store then they are liking bred for production/egg laying. Hope that helps
