Come hatch along with us!!! Last sets of the year! 10-18 to 11-7

Day 14, work has been keeping me really busy so hard to believe hatch is only a week away. Don't know about these americauna/EE eggs. Most are very porous and as far as I can see have extra large air cells and only a couple look lively. There are a couple I can't really see into very well. But will leave them be and see what happens. I can actually see a bit more in the Marans now than I could before. I can at least see the air cells and in some there are shadows, at least a couple are lively. Of course all 7 of my banty cross eggs are jumping for joy; big difference between their air cells and the EE's too.I'm thinking that the porous shells are letting too much evaporate too fast. This is only my second hatch so I"m still real new at this. But for future reference if I had another batch of porous shelled eggs I would try and up the humidity around them. perhaps set them in a foam carton with the lid on; I"m not sure the best way to do it if I had better shelled eggs in with them, so that the humidity wasn't too high for the others.

I will send the breeder a note after hatch and let them know tho. I know many things concerning eggs are inherited but I'm not sure if porosity is genetic or environmental; could just be their feed.

When I went to bump up the RH for lockdown I candled and they had very large air spaces but I could see movement in a couple. At this point I discovered that my RH gauge which had been faithfully reading 45% was not working and the wells were dry... At this point I though well what can you do just keep going and correct the problem, so I did the lockdown and put a napkin over the wells in the incubator and soaked everything. Before long the moisture on the windows started to show up so i Knew the RH was coming up, but my gauge was faithfully showing 45% still. I have only one gauge so I just had to wing it and I went to bed. I didn't sleep and at 2:00am I got up and looked in the incubator... yes still 45% Grrr....

now I know i wasn't supposed to open the incubator but I did it real quick and whipped the gauge out and whacked it and put it back in.... it started to read 75% and has appeared to work throughout the rest of the hatch. Yesterday I ordered a fancy new one with temp and RH in a remote probe..

so long story short I figured running as high as 75% might just give the chickies enough moisture to compensate a little for their earlier losses. Currently I am running a 33.3% hatch rate with shipped eggs if 2 more hatch it will be a more normal 50%. SO don't give up it seems that they can still hatch even with such large air cells!!!!

there are still three in there but it's day 22 today (or 21 depending on where you started counting) so I am giving them a little more time but I think I am done. all 4 of the babies are doing well so far.

Day 21 started last night one little guy hatched about 4am Was wortied hed be a loner and id have to scramble to get him a friend but I see 2 more pips the last time i looked 7 am
.Was up off and on all night checking humidity. Now hes hatched its staying 70 without adding water too often.
DOUBLE WOOOT!!!!
!Gotta look into that repile fogger Marine came up with or the other one Brook mentioned. This adding water every hour or 2 is a pain.
