Thank you!  That is good to know!  I feel better now!  This is so very stressful!!!!  Still working on getting the humidity to stay up, it goes up but then it goes back down pretty quick...  Going to be a long night I am afraid  :barnie

Mine does tooDid you try wet wash rags? I put them sort of open wet and thr humidity will go up fast.I use 2 then put them under the vent hole and add water with a straw and syringe or baster.Once you have one hatch the babys moisture wil keep it.uphigher

Ohh pooh :( Out of my 8 mallards,3 pekin,5 chickens. 3 mallards made it 2 of which i had to help to keep from loosing them. 2 chicken im in the process of helping and 1 that has not done anything.
Well the bright side is the stray tom someone threw out will have his belly full.He loves baby chicks.Might as well not let them go to waste. They looked like they didnt have enough room to move and zip. They were fully formed, yolks asorbedh just didnt make it out in time.
Post pictures as soon as i can.

Quick update on my batch. Day 14, 5 eggs going strong! One that I thought was doing well quit, prob day 10 or so, I eggtopsied and found that the poor thing was deformed, only having one eye. So I guess mother nature decided it was for the best. One had quit earlier, I had been suspicious of if on day 7, but wasn't sure so left him till now.

Congrats guys, on your fuzzies~ and good luck to everyone else!! =]

Quote: all of my chicks and chickens are on it now the feed bill is truly 1/3 or so of what it was. I am using the unpasteurized apple cider vinegar and can get a quart of it at walmart made by Heinz it has the word "MOTHER" in large letters o the front of the label. I am feeding 30+ chicks and use a 5 gallon bucket. I feed 3-4 times a day but only about 1 1/2 cups at a time they are growing well and seem to be happier on the food. The huge plus is they don't scratch it out like the dry so the majority of feed isn't tossed out with the litter. also the smell is almost nothing. I use the space under my stairs to brood them so the lack of smell is important. The layers get it as well as the adult and pullet bantams and the eggs have an enormous dark yolk.

I wonder if you could use Kombucha or water kefir and get the same results. I use milk kefir now and you are right about the "waste" factor there is none. Because it is almost a mash they don't scratch it out. Plus the fact that they love it. I can't wait until they start laying to see if it really does make a difference in the eggs.

some folks have used kefir grains as their starter with success. I think any sort of lactic acid bacteria will work. I used home made ACV and yogurt whey for mine. I think buttermilk might also work. BTW you can make more ACV by grinding up apples and adding some mother to them or even just plain apple juice that you buy. I make mine from cull apples, peelings and cores when I'm processing for applesauce and such. After all the lumps have turned to mush and it smells vinegary I strain off into gallon jars and let it set to clear more sediment. Tho the sediment does not matter for FF and might be an advantage.
