Come hatch along with us!!! Last sets of the year! 10-18 to 11-7

Oh glad you had some make it, yeah most mine were Roos I had to cull 5,so did that black skin Nn make it
I'm hatching some silkies and hopefully some either pumpkin hulsey or butcher spangled gamefowl depending what I can get and their quality
Yes, the darker one I am sure is a boy and the white one which I think is stunning has a crossed beak, so I am giving her/him to a local person since I don't want to risk cross beak being genetic. That white one may be a girl, but I really think boy. Then the third one was one of the araucana, he is rumpless but no tufts, he is getting his boy colors and I think he is going to be very nicely colored, black breasted red, but I will need to rehome since I already have a tufted rumpless araucana boy that is sooooo stunning I doubt the new chick can compete.

Hey when the chicks hatch would it be best to let their mother take of them, or make a brooder and raise them yourself. But since there are 3 duds and only 1 developing out of 4 eggs for me I don't know what to think.

I would let the mom take care of them, especially if there is just one lone chick. I would give her a safe place to do it though. We had a broody mom and some chicks just in our main flock that free range in our yard the chicks all died, 2 by hawk and one by drowning in the big chickens water. We now have a covered run attatched to our chicken coop w/ a seperate chick door this is where all our chicks w/ or w/o broody moms will grow now.

Where would you suggest I put her when the chick does hatch
That depends a lot on your set up. If your chickens already are in in covered run mom and chick should do well in the flock. How bad is your preditor problem. During the day free ranging in the open w/o a covered run the little chicks are big targets for cats (just domestic house cats) and hawks, not to mention drowning in adult water tubs.

Welcome!!!! We live very close to each other. I have met more friends on here in the past few months. Are the Lav Orps or Delawares from your own birds?
