Come hatch along with us!!! Last sets of the year! 10-18 to 11-7

Can I join? First time with a broody hen (she's only 6 months old), a black Australorp. She's setting on a mixed batch of 9 of our eggs, so not sure what we'll get. Know that 2 are from the Ameraucanas, but other than that, they're all brown eggs. I went back and forth on if I should let her try to hatch at this time of year, and my husband thinks I'm crazy, but I just had to let her try. Put her on the eggs on Oct. 22 and moved her to a box in a small kennel the next day.
I've only had chickens since March, so I'm very new to all of this. Really hoping she gets some chicks. Tried candling on Monday and Tuesday, but didn't have much luck. Can barely see into the brown eggs and not at all with the green eggs.
Welcome!

Well  it's day 14 so I candled them tonight...   seeing movement is not going to happen with these
dark eggs but I do think i'm getting better at it.     Out of my 12  there are two that after much
soul searching I removed,  then there were another two that were iffy so I left them in just in
case, but really I don't think they will hatch.

the remaining 8 are full of something that is blocking the light so I guess this means they have
chickies in them...     only 1 week to go,

I wish I could see movement but I guess I just have to hope and keep going...

Well Just candled my BBS Orps
.Found 3 of about 10 that look promising and day 18 tomorrow. Another 5 or 6 look iffy
Dark but seem to see a glow thru them so maybe just thick brown shells and quiters or the fact its my big flashlight hard ot cover all the light. So i will put them in too. Maybe mistake but who knows.
Did remove one of each hatch that were for sure quiters.
.Had to use the big flashlight as .the candler (that is about 2 months old )...didnt let me see one thing. and i think the batteries are going out.
.I also candled the ones due to lockdown Monday
My Local
I had 7..one looks like a quiter so 6 look pretty good.I THINK.
I see veins in at least 2 with a week to go? Hope thats possible still as they sure looked like veins but faint and those eggs are not that dark light tan. REALLY need a GOOD candler.. or better eyes LOL
So here we go...on a few.....

well I couldn't resist peeking at some more of mine; I *think* I saw some veins starting in one of the EE's but I my flashlight is a little dim and my night vision is going.... But I did see veins and a tiny hear beat! in my banty eggs. Didn't try a marans tonight; they are so hard to see into anyway. Will probably do all the eggs this weekend, at 10 days. I can't imagine hatching 160 all at once either!

Crissy my BBS go in lockdown tomorrow
.Last candle tonite..EEE Nerves!!!

Hope i have some that will hatch.
I have had all shipped every time and hatch is low to zero sometimes. My next lockdown (my only :local" eggs ever is Monday the day these hatch AND i have 14 lavender EE eggs came today might start tomorrow. or tonite. ?
Brook or anyone who has hatched a lot. I am thinking of letting them set `12 hours then in the bator and set 12 more but not turn
. What do you think?
Brook dont you let yours set no turinng for a few days? Think it works better?

WIth shipped eggs I let them rest 12 hours to come to room temp and then set them but do not turn for the first 7 days. I have seen my development rate increase tremendously doing it this way. Serama eggs are very difficult to hatch and 2 of my sets went into lockdown with 10/14 and 11/15. My Catdance Silkies came all the way from Washington State and I had 18/24 go into lockdown. I usually candle right before starting to turn them and I can toss the NF's or Bloodrings and the rest keep developing.

I KNOW for SURE i am a hatch addict!!!!...Here it is winter on the doorstep,Xmas trees in stores...and tv . and i am hatching babies that need to be in heat the next 3-4 months!!!..GUUUH.Need my head totally examined..
Oh yeah and forgot....more eggs to set tonite too!!EE's....AAAHHH

For those of you with dark egg shells I have found if you have someone help you by holding the egg and then you use 2 light sources (one on top and one on the bottom) you can see inside. I broke down and bought a Cree LED flashlight and it does a perfect job at seeing inside my Marans eggs. Candled tonight (Day 10) and I have 5/8 Araucanas and 11/12 ( #12 is questionable) with definite growth.
