TY! I guess you could say she's in bed....tucked under Momma where she's safe and warm anyway. I just pulled Momma's wing up a little to get the picture. Something I would not recommend with just any broody hen. This one is my all time favorite chicken, and has not pecked me at all. We moved her and all eggs and baby chick to a separate brooder to keep her away from the other hens. It's adorable! Is it in bed!?![]()
Not the best pic, but you get the general idea.... hope there's more babies tomorrow!!!
I am just in shock right now.5/5 Araucana eggs that went into lockdown have hatched!!! All 10 of my Marans eggs have either pipped or hatched.![]()
Awww. Too cute. Congrats!!!
I see that your chick hatched out okay!!! Congrats. It really all depends on the chick and how hard the eggshell is. I have had them hatch like yours. They start with a little star pip and then make it bigger and then take a break but I can see movement so I know it's still alive. Then they start to zipp and either do it real fast or zip a little then stop. Zip a little more and take another break and just keep doing that until they hatch. My first chick of this batch is currently hatching live!!! He's not unzipping but making a big hole...I hope he's not stuck...what do you more expirienced people think?
