I would very carefully make a small hole in the very top of the egg and see if the chick is still alive. Sometimes they internally pip and their little hearts just can't take the transition from breathing "liquid" to air.

This morning i candled the eggs.Mallard egg is still moving i can see the little beak moving in air cell.but its also turning purple right at air cell.I seen some good veining still one side of egg. So i guess i should wait.My gut feeling tells me this will not make it.

Excellent, Blarneyeggs!  Glad to hear you might have another, too.  The one that didn't hatch for me, she was still sitting on and I debated leaving her on it for a couple more days, but the chicks that hatched were on Sunday and Monday so mama really needed to get up (and letting the chicks out!) and showing them where the food and water was.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to keep the chick feed away from the rest of the flock?  I wish I had enough space to keep them completely separate and allow mama enough room to stretch, but that's not gonna happen.  As of yesterday, I have the door to the kennel she brooded in open so they can come and go as they please.  I have the chick waterer and feed about a foot away under a plastic crate - the holes in it are big enough for the chicks to go in (for now, anyway), but I much prefer the mama being able to get to it as well so she can teach the chicks.  Probably can't have it both ways, I guess.  Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated, though.

Wish I had advice for you, mine are in a seperate brooder that my son and I made, Momma has room to take them out. Last year, I didn't have this set up, I gave the whole flock the medicated chick feed and tossed the eggs back to the chicks. They weren't laying much so I didn't mind losing the eggs.

Crissycriss, Snozzle, Mary, crossing my fingers for you!

My last little egg did not hatch out last night under Momma, she left it again to feed the others and I found it half hatched, dried in the shell, but still peeping. I don't have much hope, I put it back in the incubator, slathered in triple antibiotic ointment and as the beak was exposed, I gave it a few drops of infant vitamins (no iron). I also loosened and removed as much of the shell as I could.
