I"m sure yours will lay really soon too! She looks so ready!!! And maybe she just won't squat. If she's having some activity with the rooster I think that's pretty much means the same as squatting.

I hope so - I want her to lay an egg for her sake as well as mine. She certainly looks ready to me - or at least close. Yeah, Foghorn doesn't take "no" for an answer - LOL! He wing dances them and then does the deed. There's not much wining and dining with him.

Went out to check on AC's progress - found her lounging around sunbathing in the run. But I did find all the 17 week olds hanging out in the coop.

It would be wonderful if they were close to laying - but reality is they aren't and all they do is stand around pooping in there! The little Silkie rooster is in the corner - you can barely see him behind the Lavender Orpingtons.

Silly birds! Are there any other places your AC could lay?

No - just under the coop - but I'm sure she hasn't been laying under there. Although I suppose I could got out with a rake and find out for sure by moving all the shavings and stuff around underneath. I think she just hasn't started yet. She did pop her head into the coop while I was out there shooting pics of the LOs.

No - nothing under there

Just a massive amount of loose feathers and shavings - looks like I will have to do a clean out of that area in the spring - maybe the kids would like to earn a little spending cash. The chicks have dug some pretty good size dust holes under there in the dirt & sand. I think they are planning to tunnel out.

I did notice her comb isn't as orange-red as previous - today it's more maroon red - so maybe she's close to laying. I don't think she's started already as her vent doesn't appear to match the layer's vent pic I saw on here somewhere. And I noticed that when I tried to pet her today she didn't rush off - she stood still - that's a first. She usually wants nothing to do with me. Maybe she'll give me a birthday egg next week :)
