Nothing like the milk and honey torture to liven your day! Right?Torture also features heavily in this thread.
Or any thread I’m in for that matter.....
i'm so sorry for the inconvenience!So...we weren’t going to purchase any chicks this year. We were going to cull half of our flock this year, especially since we want to rebuild a better coop (don’t trust other people who think they know what they’re doing) and completely reseed the pen.
I also wanted to build a coop and fence in the area around our portion of the yard. In 2022 I wanted to start investing in high quality bantam Cochins—especially seeing about getting a specific colour to work on (of course I can’t remember the name). Or quail, which would be so much easier to get a hold of.
If I went with quail, that would give me a year to study as much as I can; going with bantams would give me a year to track down lines.
Do you think that happened? Oh no. Ooooh noooo.
We stopped by TSC last night to pick up feed—the same TSC where our friend works. It was like the assistant manager was just waiting. It’s like he knew we were coming. He knows that we live on the same property, so he tells us that this woman wanted to return chicks that were purchased. Since they couldn’t take them back, she was going to leave them outside in 30° weather in a box. The manager took them from her.
We ended up with 6 bantam chicks. 5 are silkies and 1 is a mystery chick. She may not survive the night, but we’ve been giving her the best opportunity possible. The poor chicks were in rough shape when they were given to us. I haven’t seen them yet today since they’re in the house with electricity, but I was told that they are doing amazing except the one.
As upset as I am that my plans have been thwarted and I am beside myself that someone would just leave tiny day old chicks in the cold because they decided they didn’t want them. Humans scare me.
Just had to get this off of my chest. Sorry for the long post.
That’s so cruel. Chopping their heads off with scissors would be faster, easier, and far less cruel. Why would she want to torture the poor things. They are so lucky you took them in. It may have thwarted your plans, but maybe you will have just found the best chicks ever.she was going to leave them outside in 30° weather in a box.
