You should check the description, don't adopt a cat that has lived its whole life as a house cat. In fact, it's sometime best to get young kittens so you can raise them to do exactly what you want them to do.

Is your heat lamp too low? Low heat lamps can cause this.

My cat was around 6 months old when I got her, very social since she had been raised in my neighbors barn by one of the strays and he had interacted with her a lot. Because she was raised outdoors and with people she makes the perfect barn cat and house cat.

I can't tell from the lighting, is the skin abnormally dark in color? If so that's a possibility, but I would be surprised. How high is lamp? Is there space for them to move away from the heat?
