I am hoping and considering adding some more rare, endangered or critical breeds this coming spring.
I like the diversity of the flock I’ve got now.

I am wanting the most gentle and consideration for personality as well maybe? I miss my imprinted Pekin terribly... she started this whole damn duck thing anyway!!! Bless her heart and god rest her gentle soul.

I need at least 2 more girls as I’ve 2 drakes and now 5 ducks. I’m concerned about my ratio being lopsided. I don’t want the girls getting worked over too hard by the boys. I may just let nature take its course and hope they hatch out a brood on their own.

Im contemplating a Toulouse Gosling and 2 Turkeys in spring as well. Not sure how a sole gosling raised with 1 or 2 ducklings & Turkeys will work out?

These are pets only! For love, enjoyment and the benefit of eggs gifted to me, friends & the neighborhood. I have an Autistic kid in the neighborhood allergic to chicken eggs but not duck eggs So he gets full benefits here for eggs!

I bonded with my injuried Pekin after she was attacked loosing her mate and left eye. She was so dear, God I loved her so much and still miss her. I have considered another Pekin but I’m think her weight and size were difficult for those little legs. I believe she was a jumbo Pekin maybe?

These are my babies now 4-5 months old. Most girls named after my first crushes lol.
-Farrah (Faucet) Saxony
-Stevie (Nicks) Blue Swedish (formerly Scuba Steve lol)
-Maggie (1st love think Rob Stewart tune)
-Nina (Samone) Cayuga
-Cheryl (Tigges) Welsh Harlequin
The boys are Jimi as in Hendrix (Cayuga) & and Charlie (Welsh Harlequin).
Charlie and Scuba Stevie fooled Myers Hatchery and I by turning into boys! Charlie was Raquel (yes the Italian beauty of the 70’s lol).
Sadly I lost Goldie Hahn last week to the weasel I’m still trying to catch. That little $*#t!
My two Australian Spotteds that I got at 2 and 3 days old are the sweetest, cuddliest, and funniest pets I could imagine. They're a little mischievous, but I've held them a lot since I first got them, and they're friendly with everyone!

They are beautiful!

In my experience runners are the best for personality. I had a runner who every time I would come outside she would slap her feet on the ground really fast like a rabbit! My other one is extremely talkative and will commonly just follow me around the yard quacking about every little thing I do. Runners are by far my favorite and I highly recommend them.

I'll be following this closely! I am wanting to own ducks for the first time and through all my research I have narrowed it down to 2 breeds: Welsh Harlequin or Silver Appleyard. I am looking for egg production and entertainment. Meat production will be a potential secondary want down the road.

They both seem to be similar personality wise from what I can tell and good layers. The main difference being size of the birds. The larger size of the Appleyard would be good against predators and give more meat if I eventually start hatching some for that purpose. The smaller size of the WH would be nice to lower feed cost and less poop to clean up.

I think it will still be a while before my wife lets me pull the trigger though so I have plenty more time for research.

Good luck with your search!

I have runners and pekins. I find my pekins to be the most friendly and definitely the ones that show they are the boss. They will also make you laugh with their goofy weird personalities.
