This year I planned to extend my garden so I dug a trench--someone said the French do this all the time. Every morning I put coffee grounds, egg shells, etc. in the trench and eventually cover it with old straw. But, I have had a sore arm off and on for months now which makes digging a trench painful. (gotta check with the doctor!) DH and I will do another, weather permitting. Like the rest of you, I feed what I can to the ladies or the worms. My garden is small but I have had success planting potatoes on a bed of leaves, covering the potatoes with straw. I plan to plant potatoes on top of the trench this year.
