Confession: I am addicted to chickens!

The silkies are bantam also. I didn't necessarily want small birds but I couldn't find standards anywhere! We are a family of 5 so we don't need a ton of eggs. I think having 6 standards should be enough eggs for us.

I'm crazy for my chickens, too!

I raise Modern Game bantams, and they are so easy to collect. I have 20 right now, and my dream is to collect all of the colors (right now I have 4, but I bred one that's supposed to be a different color. We'll wait and see! It's still a chick.).

Maybe it's obsessive behavior, but it sure is fun!

It's a hybrid so it's not a true breed. In the first year a hen can lay 300 eggs. It was originally a cross of Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White. They are great layers, really nice and friendly.

A friend convinced my to try raising Cornish Cross meat birds. While I was raising them I would enjoy just watching their chicken antics. I realized that those birds were only going to be around for four more weeks, I decided to get 9 layers, and one died at about two weeks old. I have since aquired antoehr batch of CX to raise for the freezer and am already concidering the 3, 4 or6 layers I want to get next spring. I mean I made my coop and run large enough to hold 14 or so birds. Plenty of room. Right?

But what to get. I love my BRs RRs and BOs, but Speckled Sussex look cool, and I think I would like to try Black Australorps, and I really like the Cream Legbars.  :weee

OH! And I'm starting to like the light sussex too. And there is the blue and lavender orps.......  :drool

:ya  I think I need help......   :ya

And I think this is the best place to come....... right?

:gig

I think I'm going to go out and watch the chickens for a while. It is relaxing. :p

If you are looking for help to pick out chickens then yes this is the best place to be! But if you are looking for someone to slow you down... That won't happen here! Lol
