Confessions: Animal Hoarding, Animal Planet, Jan 14th, about chickens!

Maybe I should make a "Dear Rob" thread with all questions in the first post.

If you have a question, PM me and I will put one together

i am watching it now(DVR).i feel bad for the animals that are neglected and kept in filthy conditions but what i get angry about is it is always someone(family) who visits 1-2 times a year wanting them to get rid of all their animals.then they go home and what do the hoarders have left.obviously these people didn't get this way overnight so why do they care now.i understand for the animals sake that the living conditions are not acceptable but i feel bad for the hoarders in a way.

BTW i am only talking about the nice ones that seem to really care and just got lost.not the rude, nasty people.this guy on here seems like he really cared for them or at least tried.

Can you imagine?
If he joined here, we would have him dressing his house chickens up and making diapers for them!

Certainly, if he joined, he would feel very, "normal!" Heck, folks here can rationalize just about anything, especially when it is chicken related, right?

On second thought ..... Maybe he shouldn't join. Afraid we would just encourage him all the way to ...... clear off the deep end!

I do wish him well, though. Really. I wonder if he will be able to stay at just 20 chickens. Did he keep broodies? Will he let them hatch? We need a follow up show.

Hey, Nifty, could you run out there and follow up for us? You know, just check on him and see how he's doing....

Well, darn, here the staff of Animal Place all got together to watch the episode and we were all excited, and we didn't get so much as a single mention! To be honest, we're fairly miffed, as our group was the one who went to all the trouble to catch, rehabilitate, and rehome these birds (and even signed that they could show our logo) and we didn't even get a second of positive press for all of our effort and hard work. Our staff that were filmed catching and moving the birds even had Animal Place t-shirts on, but they were not shown from any angle where the shirts were visible. We still have around fifty roosters from the case looking for homes, so the positive press, even just a second of showing our site or dropping the name of the organization, could have been a big help. We're a fairly small non-profit organization, it would have been really nice if they had just brought us up once. Everyone at Animal Place is quite disappointed, to put it politely.

The producer of the show is going to be hearing from us this next week!

It was amusing seeing you on TV, though, Rob. And definitely odd to be recognizing many of the chickens in the show and naming them off!

Also, for the record, all of Peter's birds are doing great at Animal Place. And anyone in California and slightly beyond who can offer homes for some great roosters and/or retired laying hens, PM me any time. Go the website and fill out the adoption application --> http://www.animalplace.org/ Or e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at (530) 798-5115 and leave a message if I'm not in my office.

Really? I didn't see it, but I have the episode recorded so I can go look. That's a little bright spot, but we're still very unhappy with the lack of recognition. Just a second showing our site's URL would have been enough!
