This is my lemon cuckoo Orpington, I was sure it was female up until now. The breeder I got it from told me she was positive it was female. Its almost full grown and I've noticed a curving of the tail feathers. Everywhere I've read that cockerels grow their combs faster, have thicker, legs, and mostly develop slower than the pullet. This chicken barely has any comb growth. I have yet to attempt vent sexing. Anyway, this chicken isn't liked very much by the other adult hens and the rooster. kind of a loner. Please share your opinion. Thank you.
My Astralorp kindly provided her tail as an example of a hen's round-shaped feathers.
These are hackle/cape feathers that i procured today for comparison. The 2 on the right are from an Astralorp hen and a Swedish Flower hen.The large one is from a Lavender Orpington Rooster. The bottom left is from the chicken in question.
A closer look.
