So I have a hen, 9 months okd and her crop is bulbous. I felt it, it was kinda hard at first, I massaged it and it seemed the hardness passed, but then it was gaseous and never went back down in size. I separated her, no food only water for 2 days. I tipped her upside down and induced vomiting for 2 seconds at a time and i had given her a small bit of crumble and grit the night before and when i induced vomiting, it was ground up crumble, not brown fluid as sour crop would indicate.Through this entire time she has acted normally. I ordered Daktarin gel to give her for the yeast, since her crop was doughy andgaseous....but shes acting normally and eating and laying...is it possible her crop is just bigger in size than the others? Or stretchedout?? I'm a little lost now. Her crop is soft, but still bulbous with no smell and normal foodcolor to her vomit when i induced. ‍♀️ Anyideas?

Have you checked her crop at night to see if it is full and in the morning to see if it's empty? Give her a little olive oil to see if that softens it.

That happened to one of my hens 2 years ago. She had an impacted crop, after I got it working again it remained enlarged and low hanging. The muscles can stretch out apparently. Some hens do fine with the condition. Mine died about 7 months later from unknown causes.

Sometimes they do have an extended crop. I also had one that would have a massive crop at night and it did empty overnight but was baggy and squishy. If she is eating and pooping normally I would think she's probably ok. Give her some natural yoghurt and put some ACV in her water for a couple of days. Just keep an eye on her. If it gets worse again and doesn't empty try and flush it out as you were doing.

Have had a coupe with pendulous crops, they seems to function fine tho.
As long as their pooping ok, not much you can do about it.

I'd isolate bird in a wire cage within the coop for a day or two....so you can closely monitor her intake of food and water, crop function(checking at night and in morning before providing more feed), and her poops.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.

I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.

This is Violet, she's the one with the hanging crop......behavior is completely normal....She may have had an impacted crop before but with all the massaging, separation, induced vomiting, and probiotics....its just still big. Feels empty.

It does look rather large and baggy. If it feels empty and there is no smell and she's eating drinking and pooping normally I would think she will be OK. Keep an eye on her. Make sure it fills and empties normally. If your still not too happy about it, you could take her to the vet err on the side of caution. I would possibly think that if it was compacted and you cleared it, it could still be a bit stretched. It will probably go back to normal in a couple of days.

Looks like pendulous crop.

I have a Brahma with it. She is almost 3 now and not having difficulties.

Do keep a watch for sour crop. I think she will be fine though if she's hung in there so far.
