This light brahma is supposed to be 14 weeks old. I was convinced for the last month that it's a cockerel because the comb started to grow and redden, and because this chicken is HUGE, but was waiting for confirmation. Now as more feathers come it I feel less certain. Any thoughts?

(When I looked at these pics, I thought I finally saw a saddle feather on the left side of the tail. Nope, that was just a round fluffy feather falling out.)

Thanks for the replies. I'm curious, what makes you sure? This is only my second roo - the first was an EE who had super obvious saddle feathers and a mess of a tail by 8 weeks, then crowed at 10. That's why I'm confused here, by 14 weeks I keep expecting at least saddle feathers, but I see nothing but round and fluffy ones.

Cockrel:
Dark red comb at young age
If you look closely you can see a curved tail feather not like a pullet gets sometimes bout a rooster does.
Tail is VERY iradesent green
Takes a trained eye to notice hackle and saddle feathers at a young age

Deffenitley a Cockerel mines almost over 2 months and learning to crow, but yours is very beautiful!!

His comb is much redder than a females should be and his legs are almost completely covered in feathers. (Do you have a deffenite hen) when we got ours we got many different breeds including two light Brahmas, talon(pictured above) is the roo. I'm not sure if you got more than one. But from my observations, the roo grows more taller with a redder comb and more feathers on the leg

Mainly the comb and I see saddle feathers stating. This breed is slow to mature, so a pullet of this age would look like your Dark Brahma in the photo.

Green doesn't matter, and neither does the curve in the tail when determining gender.

The male hackle, saddle and sickle feathers usually start coming in at 10-12 weeks old but might not be obvious for a while longer. In slow maturing breeds like the Brahma, it can take even longer. So yours is a male.
