You know what I dont understand, the fact that we are looking at this as beating racism, but is this being any better? We shouldn't be so proud because he is African American, that shouldn't change a thing, the United States still thinks of others as groups, instead of people, and to be quite honest this really shows it. This is my opinion, and it may sound different but its my thinking, and I think Barack has some great ideas, but I believe half of the voters voted for him for the wrong reason, because of race, and isnt that racist right there. I don't intend for this thread to get looked but that's just my opinion, I may be a little young to understand how this world works being 15 but I think I may be understanding the cruelness of it!

I am So excited today. I feel like I can breathe again!

Like others I got calls and e-mails from friends and relations all over the world congratulating us US citizens on our election. Much of the world bases its faith in democracy on us and when ours works it gives them heart. The fact we can have an orderly change of power even when we disagree sets a good example for the everyone aspiring to freedom.

McCain's speech was profound and moving and very classy. All alone it helps to heal the country and begin the process of healing. Obama's speech was wonderful and will, I am sure be quoted for decades to come.

I waited for an hour and was very happy to do so! I brought my kids so they could see that this is not just our right, but our obligation. I talk regularly to people who give up everything they have and know to get what we take so for granted.

I did not consider race when voting, but I am happy that we have set a new precedence in America..... opening the door for a wider selection of candidates in the future. If McCain had won, I would have been happy to see a precedence for women in high offices. I think America is really trying to progress. It has been "traditional" in the wrong sense for so long.... time to allow for more.

When I hear people talking about how this is a proud day for African Americans... I feel that is wrong to say... it is a proud day for ALL Americans because we have reached a milestone and would have one way or the other. It's a new frontier.

I work the polls yesterday for 16 hours. We had the highest turnout in our district that we've ever had. We had lots of first time voters both young and older. We had people in their teens and people in their 90's and I LOVED IT! i just love helping kids to vote for the first time. I had kids who were so excited to vote that you would have thought it was a concert instead of an election, that CAN'T be a BAD thing!!
I am very proud of our country and I am pretty sure we had some write in votes for Joe Bryant .

Have faith in the good side of humanity antiqubuff. This thread is not about who voted for who or who won and who lost. It's a celebration of the fact that people got out in record numbers and exercised their right to vote.

My great grandfather and my grandfather fought in the first and second world wars respectively so that we could be free and live in a democracy. For me personally it's about respecting their memories and sacrifices that I get out and vote. They didn't fight so I could sit on my butt when it came to choosing who runs my country. I know that it's also my right to choose not to vote, but I don't think that's the idea.

Not everyone voted for Obama, but we have chosen a new leader. I just hope that some things stay dreams instead of becoming reality. We definately got change, I just wonder if it's the change we really want. Only time will tell. Until then, this has been an election that has made history!
