That's partly because his speech heavily borrowed from those of decades past.

But it was a good speech, just the same.

I was shocked he quoted Hitler,, We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

but thats my fav quotes

I'm confused here. Are you saying the quote:

"I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battlefield and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

...was Hitler?

It's the last paragraph of Lincoln's inaugural address.

If you weren't saying that....then nvm....

That quote belongs to Abraham Lincoln

Edited to add a link to the quote:

Thanks MartianChick... rumors (and misconceptions) are SO easy to start and sooo hard to stop.

Both speeches made me cry.

My local news said it was the largest turnout since 1908! I wish people would get involved in every election. Hopefully people will continue to stay involved.

i had searched it years ago and only ever found hilter, i stand corrected

i corrected on the post but it doesn't correct the quote quote quotes

I voted paper ballot and it had a place for write-ins. I just assumed that the electronic machines, which were an option but were busy, had a way to type in names.

You know....to unite all of us chicken people far and wide we can always try to get the new president into keeping chickens...

You know, start with a few Americaunas and before you know it the White House will be overrun with peeps....because we all know how addictive our little feathered friends can be! You start with one or two, and before you know it there are a few hundred!

Again, I think you guys should be proud of the accomplishment you achieved last night. I know many here in Canada are very impressed at your voter turnout.

Heehee, it's been kind of fun up here. Walking around I hear bits and pieces of conversation and I hear Obamas name quite often. I work in an educational institute and actually heard a Chinese conversation with Obama's name in it. I couldn't understand a word otherwise, but it was definitely interesting.

Thanks UC. You know, the Canadians I've met (and I'm related to about 500 of 'em

) typically have a good understanding of US politics. That goes for the Europeans I've met as well. Since we all share this world, I think it's great that we stay involved and in tune with the world around us.
