Connecticut Chicken Stock

Weather warning:
It ooks like it may be a wet day on Sunday. MooseHill and I both have canopies
so all is well. If anyone has any easyup canapies consider bringing them. We
are NOT goin to let the weather reain on our parade.

I am so bummed I can't make it to the chickenstock! I will be at work saving lives(I'm a nurse). You guys have lots of fun and I am sure there will be posts telling us all about it. If there are any standard young roos looking for a home , I have 23 pullets that would be thrilled to met them. I have 4 speckled sussex, 5 dominiques, 5 black langshans, 3 turkens, 2 new hamps, 2 black sex-link, and 2 americaunas including edwina scissorsbeak(the special needs chicken). These guys are about 3 months old.

I hope it doesn't rain.

We should have room in the car, just let us know. Did you decide on a meeting place yet? And if you want to bring your dog, he's welcome in our car

i'm bringing 7 3 week old red star roos. however in the near future i MIGHT have a buff cochin, 1 or 2 cuckoo marans, a salmon favorelles,.....i think that was it on straight ones. the buff is 4 1/2 weeks with a relly red comb:( the others are just 3 weeks today) i'm thinking i got 1 and 1 on the marans, and the favorelle was the free chick, who i can't tell apart from the 2 pullets i ordered. i'll let ya know if anybody starts crowing.

Hey - I think I'm gonna make it! If anyone wants to carpool let me know.

I'll bring:
pasta salad
green bean and tomato salad
chips

I think I have 2 Welsummer roos and possibly an extra buff silkie roo, but I'm not sure who is staying or going yet so they won't be making the trip. Maybe to the BYOR seminar??

See ya'all soon!

We could have it at our place, and while ya'll are here we might as well have a coop building party too

Okay, Chickenstock is at the bottom of the hill, and chicken processing could be at the top of the hill, back by the woodline, out of sight. We've got 2 roos to contribute to the cause. Remember those 2 EE's you gave me, PC? They must go.

No children need be offended, no happy mood disrupted. In fact you'd provide a welcome diversion for the DH who very much wants to learn how to process...and apparently others do as well. So I say, let's go for it. PC, he can't drink beer on Sunday, but Sat night, well that's another story...

Ok the processing is on. We will do it later in the day and out of sight of
anyone uncomfortable with it. I will bring the tools and at least one roo.
Bring a knife and hatchet if you like.

Me and Drumstick will do all the culling unless someone wants to try it themselves.

In no way do I want this to effect the enjoyment of those not involved or not
comfortable with it. I completely respect those who choose not to eat meat.
We try not to eat meat that has been raised in factory farms. That makes
many people look at us like we a crazy when in fact we are doing what we
believe is right.

Those interested please PM me to discuss any details.

I'm totally with you on this; take responsiblity for what you eat. Make sure your animal was raised humanely. Even say a little prayer of graitude for the sacrifice of it's life, so that you may in turn, thrive. I consider that you are doing us all a great service by teaching us an almost forgotten skill....if you're gonna eat meat, face the reality....
