I also live in Shelton ( Hubbell La.) I want to have 2-3 chickens. But after asking questions at planning and zoning I'm afraid I'll have to have a covert operation. Still have to talk to a neighbor or two and get their feeling about it. I don't want to get my coop up and running and then have someone drop a dime on me. I really hope it works out. Any ideas that might help?

A small coop with 3 or 4 hens would be quiet and covert. I've always got chicks

Hi Don,

My yard is about 1 acre. I live next to a cattle farm which is great. My problem is a neighbor whose house is kind of behind me. Maybe they will be fine with it, I'm not to sure. I'm deciding if I should talk to them or just do it. I asked zoning and they said you now need 5 acres even for just 1 chicken. Unless the chickens were pre-exsisting to the latest law. Anyway, I'm having fun planning this out, best coop design, best type of chicken, etc. Thanks for the offer of the chicks, I hope to take you up on it. Would it be possible to visit your place sometime? I want to get ideas to what I might need.

Sure Frank. Just PM me for my address and phone number. We are right off
42 on the Bethany line.

My suggestion is talk to the neighbor if you are friendly with them. Tell them you
are not going to have a roo.

I've got a bad attitude on towns. I'd tell zoning to go jump in the river. People
can have huge dogs but the town thinks they can say you can't have a few hens.

Shelton used to be a nice town. Now it's Howe Ave Harlem and Huntington ^&%&*^.
Sorry, don't mean to bash your town but I just know Valley politics too well.
Just a Derby boy..... Now Beacon Falls (Thank God).

I've got 8 eggs on day 5 right now. If this actually works, any that are roos will be coming with me. There are 6 silkie eggs, one silkie/buttercup and one serama/modern game. I will also be assisting a fifth grade class with a hatch in April so I may have some chicks from that as well. Don't know what those will be yet. Probably a lot of mutts.
