Well I don't have strawberries or peaches for the chickens -but is there any such thing as 'worm overload' for 6 week old chicks? The chicks have been going out in the coop during the day (back to the dog kennel at night for warmth) and the neighborhood kids have discovered how much fun it is to give them worms...

I just bought worms for my chickens today and they react the same as when I give them blueberries. It's like watching chicken football!

Who pushes who, who runs to the corner of the run first and the others try to get the treat. It is hysterical watching them!!!

The funniest thing is that the littlest chick - who's no more than a third the size of the others - is the quickest at pouncing on the worm and running away to eat it! And she's little enough to wedge into a small place where the bigger girls can't get it from her

I have about 10 pine logs in my chicken yard. Most of the time the logs are chicken chairs. They like to line up on them and preen in the evenings.

however-----about 3 or 4 days after a good rain storm --- I roll them over

bug bonanza and usually a worm or 2 - cheapest chicken snack ever

--------------any way 2 my dismay wit the help of my BYC peeps i found out why i havnt got any eggs ITS BECAUSE ROOSTERS DONT LAY EGGS!!!!!!!!! i feel like ive been had b/c they were baught at the auction as hens and pullets o well 1:4 isnt the ratio i wanted i was shooting for 4:4... so here it is im sad that my 4 girls now seem 2 be 3 cocks...so sad b.c they are some nice looking chickens in my oppinion but then again what do i know....not as much as i thought so once again i come 2 my hero helpers @ the best group in BYC the CT group the most helpful people ive meet so far...thanx again every1.....so i go in 4 my first of many surgerys on tuesday so am trying 2 get as much done b4 im unable 2 walk for 6-8 weeks......i am looking for some laying pullets who are now laying or pretty close....i am in north haven/new haven and am wondering if any1 knows where around this area if any that i can pick up some new birds b4 tuesday.....if any1 knows can you please please please let me know.. did i mention please??....also b.c my roos dont act like roos in that they all get along together VERY well and in the 5 weeks i havnt heard a single crow ill prob keep them as long as i can ..being a chef its tempting 2 make my famous chicken parm but the reasion for my first birds being layers besides the fact i want a flock for fresh organic egs, was b/c i knew ide get attached so ide rather see them go 2 a new hope if possiable...check out the pics in my other post there r a lot or if ne1 needs i can post some pics here.....if any1 is interested in the 2 BR or the RI RED let me know if your close i can deliver or we can meet up ide love 2 keep them also and get layers but thats not an option.....ide like to at least get bak what i paid foor them but if some1 wants them im willing 2 work out something or just give them free to any 1 here who wants them b4 i give craig a chance 2 put them on his list(craigslist)....speaking of craigslist i saw an add for Margitas poultry in wallingford and she had white leghorns and gold commets(more interested in the commets) has ne1 delt with Margitas? i would love to keep the same breeds i have but the gold commets seem like they would be good if i cant find any others...
