Connecticut!

Can someone remind me when the Durham Fair is again? That was my favorite fair in CT. Back then I used to go JUST to go thru the livestock/poultry buildings. Now that I actually have chickens I'd love to go but it depends on when it is and when I decide to make my next trip to CT. How has the poultry there been the last few years? We just had the NY State Fair and a ton of people, including myself, were disappointed in the quality of the birds there. Lots of sick birds, birds that looked half alive. the conditions were just awful.

I love the Durham Fair - I like it more than the BigE
( closer to home, same stuff, and support your local businesses! :) )
Can we purchase hens directly from the Durham Fair?
Or if you find something good, is it something you set-up for a later date? I know that some are available right there last year there were some cages with prices on them and I talked to a few people that were also selling. It is definitely a good way to make new connections.

Sorry to read about your missing bird :(
There was a hawk checking ours out yesterday :p

** In search of Legbar Chicks/Pullets in CT, message me.

Had a message on my machine when I got home from Lock Stock & Barrel - they have Blue Seal organic layer pellets in stock now!

As for legbars, I have a spare cockerel but not a pullet (I only have 1).

Celtic, try Green Survival gardens in Waterford, they have no problem ordering something special..Also, laysville hardware in Old Lyme, can order Blue Seal products as well

Its brutal losing one...3 Sundays ago I had my girls out in the yard. I checked on them every few minutes. I had the dogs out there to keep an eye on them as well. The dogs came in, I started dinner and checked on them after about a half hour. Something came and got one of my Polish girls. It was around 5pm. You have to watch them constanty! I had them out for a couple hours this past Sunday and the dogs and I just sat out with them, 2 hawks were flying overhead circling around. You would think with both dogs, myself and my neighbor mowing his lawn it would deter them. NOPE. You can't turn your back for a second. Now I've decided to just really increase the size of their run...I can't take losing another one.

so sorry.
