Thanks for the good organic news!

Chicken coop materials...
Saw this morning 130 free pallets posted on our local craigslist!

They are at the Trumbull High School, and are tied up nice.

This year we put pinwheels from Walmart in strategic spots around our yard to keep hawks away. The pinwheels are in the toy section of every walmart, and we then bought thin pvc pipe = cut it into 3 ft sections, pushed 6inches into the ground = now they will stick out of the snow.

I still have 2 black copper marans cockerels that are a little over 4 mos. These boys have got to go, and I'm still hoping to find them an alternative to the usual end... so I am shameless posting about them again in case anyone is now looking for a rooster (or 2).

They are not at all human aggressive, and calm down when held (once you catch them- I usually do about 3-4 circles around the yard until I win...). Not going to sugarcoat it, they are very vocal.

Wade Jean line.

Can't post a pic..?

My avatar is one of them.

So here's a question, how do you get your chickens back in the coop before evening? If i have to run out or just need to go in the house, it's like hearding cats! I've tried the bribing with treats method, I've tried calling them with treats... they come then bail when they see where they need to go. It makes in impossible to let them free range.

I'm having the same trouble with mine! Herding cats is a good analogy. I'd also like to know if there are any good tricks. I probably look ridiculous chasing after them and talking to them trying to coax them back into their coop/run. Lol!

Also, about the hawk migration - good point!

Big storm coming ... BIG ... batten down the hatches!

Autumn is coming too.

Last year I hoarded 20 leaf bags in my garage, it wasn't enough.
I use it for our girl's chicken run. Works perfectly for us.

If anyone has dry & clean (PLEASE clean, no roadway debris, garden clippings, poison ivy, or yards with dogs)

bagged leaves or pine needles / pine straw at your curb let me know - I'll arrange a pick up
and they will be donated to a VERY good organization!

in the New Haven area & surrounding (WHaven, Orange, Woodbridge, Westville)

The leaves that we have been collecting for umpteen years are no longer,

the neighbor had their big tree cut down weeks ago.
On "the bright side" our garden gets more sun,
but I'm kind of worrying about my clean leaf collection.
Thanks if you do!

Hi, chicken friends!
frow.gif

A duck person here, with a friend who is looking for a silkie or other small breed hen for her recently adopted rescue roo. Aside from having had a pet Rhode Island Red when I was five, I am chicken ignorant. But I like to help folks out, especially when they have taken in a critter.

My Pet Chicken is out of stock on the silkies. Suggestions for where we could find a small hen needing a home?
