Derby garden center 4 caroline street very reasonable has pine shavings big bag 9.99
And carries blue seal and nutrena will special order you any blue seal thing you want carries starter/layer. I have been using home fresh with a little more protein oomf to finish off the Barnevelders!!! Hope to see some of you next weekend at orange fair

ok so ive really been thinking my coop should be done by end of September or October at most should i get a couple month old chickens first b/c of cold weather starting to set in by then? or older? or just wait till spring and get day old chicks any advice? i am def a novice but trying to start smart so i am not hiding lil chicks inside all winter?

You could get 2 mos or older chickens if you want to start right away. I saw some on Craigslist recently, and i know Benedict's in Monroe probably still has some. I prefer to raise them myself because the chickens are nicer that way. So personally, I'd wait till spring and get day old chicks. That is just me... I don't think chickens lay as much in the winter anyway, from what I've heard/read.

Maybe not. It wasn't too long ago that I saw a customer buy a few laying hens though. I'm not sure if they still have any today.

There's a livestock auction up in Durham that sells chickens, turkeys, quail, etc, every Monday. Might find some nice birds but sometimes you get scumbags that sell sick birds so your taking a gamble but most are legit. I haven't bought anything from the auction in couple years so idk how it is now. I just sell birds up there.
