Connecticut!

hmm Ok thanks for all the advice ill look on Craigslist...but maybe ill wait for spring then id prefer calmer nicer birds trained by me kinda skeptical on getting a flock off Craigslist for the fact yah never know how people treated them! i might check the auction out i don't know if i could tell if they were sick or not yet when i say i am new at this i mean real new lol growing up on a farm we had some but last time Ive seen a live chicken in person that wasn't going to be eaten shortly after was when i was 7-8 so a lot of the stuff i use to know has long been forgotten so will be like i am starting over.

There's a livestock auction up in Durham that sells chickens, turkeys, quail, etc, every Monday.  Might find some nice birds but sometimes you get scumbags that sell sick birds so your taking a gamble but most are legit.  I haven't bought anything from the auction in couple years so idk how it is now.  I just sell birds up there.
. Was it always in durham someone told me they go to an auction in Middletown on Monday's .

Hi CT peeps!

So excited for the Durham Fair.
This cooler weather today though, I'm missin' the warmer breeze.

Anyway, it's actually called the Middlesex Live Stock Auction,
located in Durham (confusing, I know)
488 Cherry Hill Rd Durham, CT 06422

Hmm maybe I can find a legbar or welsummer pullet there?

Who did you talk to over the phone? The old man died few years ago he was a great man only took about 10-15% auction fee of what you sell. Now he's dead and his wife and 2 girls took over since then bumped it up to about 30% fee of what you sell. You wont make money selling anymore, only to buy a bag of feed if your lucky..

If you're a buyer you're in good shape.. Just don't go to the auction around a holiday cause more people will be there = more bids.

Lock Stock & Barrel - update

Blue Seal Organic Life Layer Pellets - $30.75 for 50 lbs.

Red Bag Large Pine Shaving 3.25CF $5.39 each (they have the same CF in a smaller-sized shavings in the $4 range ($4.49 I think) but I'd rather have less dust.

Shavings still out front but chicken feed now in back so you have to go in and pay and drive around back - they no longer have any bags on the "chicken" isle (which is no longer just chicken stuff but they still have waterers, feeders, incubators, etc).

Still cheaper than Benedicts and Derby for this area, and Woodbury Agway too. Very nice and helpful and will get what you want. So nice to be able to drive 5 min to get stuff instead of 30 min. Don't know if they do Blue Seal, etc, pet food but the dog/cat food on the shelves is high end. Found a low-range dog food (for there) that our dogs love.
