So sorry!

Well, I HAD seven in my flock, but apparently I'm down to six now. 

Something came through before dusk and took an Easter Egger hen from me. Sad evening over here now.

They were out. We had been bringing them in earlier, but now they are in the run unless supervised.
Can't help but feel a little guilty though.
Stinks, but it happens. Chickens should stop being so delicious.

I'm not looking forward to the day I have to face a loss for the first time. I'm new to keeping chickens.

( closer to home, same stuff, and support your local businesses! )
Can we purchase hens directly from the Durham Fair?
Or if you find something good, is it something you set-up for a later date?

Its brutal losing one...3 Sundays ago I had my girls out in the yard. I checked on them every few minutes. I had the dogs out there to keep an eye on them as well. The dogs came in, I started dinner and checked on them after about a half hour. Something came and got one of my Polish girls. It was around 5pm. You have to watch them constanty! I had them out for a couple hours this past Sunday and the dogs and I just sat out with them, 2 hawks were flying overhead circling around. You would think with both dogs, myself and my neighbor mowing his lawn it would deter them. NOPE. You can't turn your back for a second. Now I've decided to just really increase the size of their run...I can't take losing another one.
