Connecticut!

Hello CT!

Happy for the sunshine, but I do not like wind ... brr!

I ordered a 6x8 clear tarp from mytarp.com ~
  • Clear Vinyl Fabric: weight 27 oz per sq. yd. 30 mil thick. Polished crystal clear finish on both sides
  • 30 MIL clear vinyl tarp has outstanding cold weather performance down to -40 F.
  • Clear Vinyl is Waterproof. UV resistant. High tear and abrasion resistance.
  • Heat Sealed seams. Grommets approximately every 2 ft. on all sides

They sound perfect, right? Ordered Sunday and they already shipped my order, arrival of 3 days and I didn't pay extra for speedy shipping. I could not find a clear tarp locally, am excited to get it!
Wanted to get it last year, but dealt with tarps we already had in the garage = just too dark!

I sized up a clear heavy duty shower curtain, but as you can see from the pic below - it would be useless to double it for the width and it truly needs the holes to tie down the bottom for our strong New England winds. Shower curtains just don't have enough holes and are too flimsy for our location -can hardly wait for delivery!-
Really looking forward to this clear wind block, letting the sun shine into the run this winter.

Putting the finishing touches on our new roof this week & it will finally be done! -dances-

No more dark tarped wet run for our girls!
I'm looking forward to taking the final photo next week.
We used this kind of system for our rabbit hutch and it worked
perfectly for 10yrs. (that tarp to the right is temporary, windy today!)
This will be alot tighter/stronger when done though, wish us luck.

This photo reminds me to research "how to remove pine sap from plexiglass"
(sap marks are the white marks on the lower half of the run door)

Boo to the all-weather waterproof adhesive that is supposed to dry clear, we added it to the edges for fun.
Massive framing system below this:

A work in progress, it is ever really done?

Expensive eggs!

One of our girls, my current favorite:

In his book, "The Small-Scale Poultry Flock," Harvey Ussery writes that "the barred gray pattern is said to be the best camouflage, followed by the black-breasted red pattern."

Yes, very!
We learned this from the Migration Festival & the speaker for the Orange Land Trust who has hawks and owls. Flashes of white catch their eye. The black & white barred pattern makes me a bit dizzy. My Legbars are part barred-rock and one shows faint barring in her feathers. Their head/neck feathers aren't white, they are more of a cream color.

Though the tip of her tail (Polly in foreground) is more white than cream...

Just collected 2 dozen leaf bags from the neighbors, they had their nice dry leaves blown & collected by a landscaper this morning who unknowingly put them in bags for me to pick up at the curb! We have all oak trees in our neighborhood, and I poke holes in the bags for circulation & store above our garage in front of a sunny window.
Ready for winter .... so happy!

sometimes my EEs get foraging among the leaf litter and I just can't find them. They blend in so well! I worry about them much less than some of the others.

Jill I tried to click your name & check out your photos but I needed to be a staff member to view them (private). Aww.

Yeah, my new babies seem well camouflaged when walking in our yard -
and I have a hard time finding them sometimes because they blend in with our mulch etc.
We loved our buff bird, her orange color was easiest for our eyes to find.
I had a beautiful black pullet once, she was just a shadow in our yard - impossible.
My clear tarp should be arriving today from mytarp.com = so eager for it to get here!

These are Rosie and Daphne, the ones who blend so beautifully. They also seem the most savvy about hawks.

Our pinwheel idea, we have a total of 8 -strategically placed around.
Hen House to the far left - wild bunny grazing in center. "He" was coming every day & spending time with our girls, haven't seen him in weeks now

Edit: not sure how my photo ended up in your quote, but oops.
