Connecticut!

Edit: By the way, I looked back thru some pages of posts and your blue eggs are beautiful! Best of luck with those babies :love

Thanks!! :) I can't wait to candle them on Thursday - I'll post an update.

The hawk scream - that is classic. I love birds of prey... Just not on my chicken! Lol. I guess I'll have to get some pinwheels and scarecrows too!

I don't understand why people in this state are suffering from frostcomb when I never had a bad case of frostcomb yet and I don't use heat lamps either.  It's cold every winter don't know why this year is any different..

Edit: Not trying to be a troll but it's New England and even my Naked Necks don't mind the cold/snow.

I'm not sure either. I don't use coop heaters, and this time I'm not even gonna put Vaseline on my marans rooster's comb and see how he does.
I hear the combs grow back. I hope that's true!

Nice big coop! :) I wish I had one that big! Nice on days when they don't wanna go outside. How many chickens do you have?

I'm going to be building a complex of 4 coops/runs - 24x12 - in March! Gotta get my carpenter on :) I have a bunch of eggs coming and some incubating right now - and chicks coming too. I have plans for breeding/developing a few rare breeds.

Wow that sounds good you got alot going on,I have 30+ last count and I'm waiting for them to start laying again so I can start some incubating too!I was able to make another coop last year just for breeding that coop is 5'x6 and in a smaller pen within my bigger one.

My 4 roosters seem to be doing fine also, they all have big combs and I don't use heat, vasaline or anything else. For those of you who have frost bitten birds the combs and wattles will heal themselves as soon as the weather warms in the spring and will turn red again.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.....!

It's coming down now - beautiful.

Just came in from lubing my hen's comb/wattles and added another bag of leaves inside the coop ~
a first for us because I always keep the chopped hay in the coop... I have SO many leaf bags though, might as well put them to good use as an extra layer of insulation for this cold snap we're going to get.

Good luck everyone -brrrrrr-

If you don't mind, I'd like to pick your brain about barnevelders sometime. I'm going to be working on blue DL barnevelders. I have some eggs coming on the week of 2/3 and some Johan eggs coming later on around May. I'm really excited about this project!
