I hear em!! all day, but i dunno about them in my yard, although its pretty manicured, In my woods though i hear em flying

Wow I'm surprised out here in simsbury we have none I haven't seen or heard any, also leaves work very well too absorb the water in the run.I usually save the leaves from the fall and when it rains alot or when the snow starts melting I just dump a bag or two and it works great soaking up the moisture, and the chickens love scratching through it.

I am so sick of the rain! Thankfully our run stayed pretty dry. We have a stream right next to it, so most of water flows in there.

So who else has chickens going INSANE for cicadas? Mine are eating them like crazy.

Wow, I'm surprised! Honestly, we have millions of them. You can't even walk outside without stepping on them. I live pretty much in the woods though. If you go out at night, you can hear them crawling through the leaves and if you grab a flashlight they're all coming out of the ground and crawling up the tree trunks. I'm in Berlin (Central CT). They are deafening.. someone was over our house over the weekend and couldn't believe how loud it was here. During the day they're flying around everywhere.. a few have hit me in the face when I was walking! I think it's because we have so many trees & they feed on tree roots while they're underground. The chickens LOVE them. They keep flying into their run too, so apparently they're not too smart.

Ugh gross! I just got the eb-jeebes! The shoreline does not have any yet.

I think your right, I mean ever since I was Little the summers always contained many Cicadas and their music, Actually whenI think of a hot dry summer day playing on my parents ranch I always associate the Cicada sound ;) what I would do to be a kid on summer vaca again lol!!!

I was actually looking forward to it, from my geeky perspective. I don't want them getting tangle in my hair but otherwise I thought it sounded cool. Guess I am a sucker for the hype. Matter of fact, during the last emergence of Brood II, I was fresh outta high school and in the same location. I don't remember seeing any back then, either.
