Connecticut!

They are in a coop that is raised with a run under it and then we built another larger run attached to it. They are also in a fenced in area right outside our back door. It's the one spot in the yard that gets direct sunlight all year round. They only way in to that area is by going up the porch stairs, through a latched gate, across the porch, through another latched gate and then into the fence area. I've got these girls in Fort Knox. Haha.
I will put the renegades in the coop tonight an see what tomorrow brings.

LOL that's good. We call ours "The Vault". Maybe it's just a tiff between the girls. Right now we have one girl not getting to go up on the roost with the others.

Anyone in CT know of any chicken swaps or places to buy and sell chickens? How about shows?
There is the congress show in January. It is at the Big E fairgrounds. Supposed to be huge. Lots of stuff for sale and people to chat with.

Hi ChcNLove, I'm on the shoreline to:) Here's a pic of my set up.
I used 1/2 hardware mesh top/sides, we have lots of coyotes/hawks, coons, snakes , you name it where I am so I am rather paranoid :)

Can't free range mine because of the 'critters', but may try it this spring when I can supervise better..My run is 12 x 22, barn is a rebuild that smashed during storm sandy, love my rebuild lots more room

Good idea on the no free ranging... My favorite girl got eaten by a hawk 2 weeks ago. I had to chase him off of her. Such a horrific thing.

WOW! That is some setup you have! Very nice.....
I am just starting out, so far I ordered the chickens...lol spending the winter planning the coop design, there are so many options. I am in Clinton and would love to peck, I mean, pick your brain on chicken raising some time over coffee!

Cathy, this is the second person this week I have met on here from Clinton. Me too! Nice to meet you!

In the spring or sooner I will be hatching lots of hatching eggs to sell the chicks. I hope to hatch frizzles, silkies, naked necks, polish, as well as some others. Not preselling but curious who would be interested in buying any chicks.
Where are you getting the eggs from? Are they your own?

As far as molting,.. mine have not. is that a norm for their age?

TIA!!

Sara
Good question, mine are a year this spring, and they never molted. One Barred Rock lost a few feathers, but nothing more. I was wondering if that was normal for pullets.

I'm feeling friendly! I wonder if I have any neighbors on here? I'm in Colebrook, Litchfield County. And happen to be watching Winsted Issues on the local channel at this very moment, actually!

I typically spend a few days of the week at my dad's in Weston, too. I think some of you said you're in Easton and Fairfield? I'm right off 136, pretty much at the corners of Fairfield, Easton and Westport, and Redding is very close.

This morning I discovered our very first egg from our new birchen marans flock!! :-D
400

Unfortunately, it was frozen solid. :-/
Now I find myself checking more frequently. Is there a good way to keep eggs from freezing?

I'm in Beacon Falls, though I'm originally from Easton and my parents are still there. Anyone else on here from Woodbridge other than Apdeb? On my way to work in New Haven I pass 2 houses in Woodbridge that have started selling eggs - not far from Apdeb's house.

I'm in Easton. I have friends in Woodbridge - beautiful area. It would be great to meet people from this thread at fairs or swaps next year. I may go to the congress show.

Speaking of eggs, I got my second egg today! Yay :) this time it was still warm. Gonna have to keep a closer eye on egg production so they don't freeze!
